A recent survey from Monster reveals a disturbing trend in the American workforce: an increasing number of employees say they are facing toxic work environments, with detrimental effects on their mental health.
The latest Mental Health in the Workplace survey conducted by Monster paints a grim picture of the current state of American workplaces. The survey, which polled 1,100 workers, found that an alarming 80 percent of respondents described their workplace as toxic, a significant increase from the 67 percent reported just a year prior. This toxic environment is taking a toll on employees’ mental well-being, with 71 percent of workers rating their mental health as either poor (40 percent) or fair (31 percent).

The article doesn't break it down, but I would bet besides the group that rhymes with pillpennials are the younger boomer/gen xers who are increasingly relied on because they know how to and can do things. Not trying to paint with the broad brush, there are exceptions to the rule.
DEI is toxic. seen it first hand
Younger generations are infested with snowflakes.
Actually, the toxic work environment is all of the woke and DEI nonsense being pushed on a normal person who doesn’t want to be bothered by it. I can assure you almost every week.I face some kind of toxic environment where the company continually pushes the woke agenda and desires me to abandon my personal beliefs.
For example, I dare not post a conservative meme at my desk, but the LBGTQABCDF+ community continually, post rainbow buttons and all kinds of moral obscenities that we’re expected to tolerate.
“My tr*ns coworker keep dipping its d*ldo into my coffee mug!”
There’s nothing I find more hateful on this forum and there are few hateful subjects, than the pinpointing of generation blame
That said, I have a very toxic work environment and it is among me and my fellow baby boomer having zero to do with our age
Shirking work and responsibility onto me and everyone that dreams of wanting to work there. It is a great job otherwise. Highly skilled
No one young can do it very well because of the years of experience required.
The problem has Ben and always has and is now getting worse, wimpy bosses who favor nasty people. They are afraid of firing, lawsuits, and they get pressure from the offices that have to deal with disgruntled workers. The worst of which are the ones to sue and they are toxic in the office knowing they have power
You can slap as much DEI, race, age and sex discrimination you want on that. What it is is lawsuit fear and the worst element having too much power from it
Toxic? LIke they are expected to show up on time and actually work?
I have been told many time by HR that I can not tell the truth, I could not look at what an employee did and tell them that not only is not an acceptable practice but it was dumb, stupid...and so on.
Most of the time you can navigate it but even with the tide of wokeness beginning to recede it is a tiring and distasteful battle.
Toxic Work Environments fatigue
Im other news....80% of companies dont have a HR department thats worth a shit
If you visit Europe, you'll notice that the Mediterranean lifestyle is so much more laid-back.
Snowflakes everywhere!
I agree that this is horribly skewed by the age distribution of the respondents. If it’s so toxic, then quit. The reason that isn’t happening is because these are young workers with little experience who want their job, but the job doesn’t measure up to the “we/they” expectations they were taught to expect while in school. Welcome to the real world.
They need to issue these things in those companies.
Welcome to my CS tent. Step forward one at a time, take off your mask, and then tell me your name, rank, serial number, date of birth, and in which school you attended ROTC.
the 80/20 rule was definitely in force at the GOCO i worked at my most of my life ...
on top of that, it was toxic at least half the time i worked there, with sociopaths in the 20% spending all of their time trying to nuke the actual workers by deliberately fostering intramural fights and conflicts via gossip full of lies ...
the managers were so piss-poor they were clueless, and in fact, the sociopaths actually managed to knock off a few of the weakest managers just for fun ... i even tried to warn one manager in a different department whom i liked that the employee she trusted the most was a lying snake who was busily trying to get her fired, and she looked at me like i was nuts ... and in fact the snake did in fact get her fired a couple of weeks later ...
my own direct manager was a shithead who stayed in his office with the door locked, writing differential equations to extrapolate his retirement funds when he wasn’t trying to knife members of his own group in the back ...
because of his own incompetence and indifference regarding his actual job he almost managed to have our GOCO disconnected from the Internet due to inattention to a necessary RFP ... as the disconnect deadline approached, i was so alarmed by this, I went over his head by three management levels to explain the situation, and also wrote up a petition listing all of his sins chapter and verse, and everyone in his group signed it ... we presented it to HIS manager, who called each one of us into his office one by one and interrogated us about the petition, and the next day our direct manager was demoted and then retired ... corporate life was as fun as a barrel of monkeys ...
Please repeat your answer.
Where did you work, church office? ;-D
Toxic is a vague term. Half could complain their workplace is too woke, the other half not woke enough.
Nowhere in the article does it define what makes the evironments "toxic." It only says that the workers feel it is toxic and complain about the amount of time off for "mental" relief.
The linked survery defines "toxic" as:
Number 1 is self-referencing, it still doesn't define what "toxic" means.
Numbers 4 and 5 are the result of the same problem; it's either being hired into a "lean" envirnment, a workforce in transition, or truly a place that can't retain staff.
In my day, we called out "toxic" for what it was:
This poll seems to be highlighting the expectations of snowflakes who were used to be coddled at home, in the public schools, and in the universities. Now they are facing the reality that "adulting" comes with some personal responsibilities and accountabilites.

What would the survey show if everyone was self employed?
