Dear Military Veterans,
In honor of the Navy's special anniversary, I would like to create a table of military service for those who served in the Navy and want to be included.
Please look at part of a table below which I have provided as an example, and see what I have in mind. I'm open to suggestions, but this table is a quick way to get started.
If you would like to be added to the table, have a look at the format I've created and repy on this thread to have your name added. Once I get the names, I can post the completed table in a comment at the bottom of this thread, which you can link for later reference.
I could add the other military branches too, but I would like to honor the Navy's special day, and having this thread be Navy-only would help. Once I complete the Navy table, I can post a new thread and invite another branch, complete their table, then another branch etc. I would like to create a master table of all military who wish to share so that all user names would appear in alphabetical order and be easier to reference regardless of branch of military service.
If there's no interest in this table, please accept my gratitude for your service. THANK YOU!

I see you were on a couple of “Tin Cans” alongside...(grin)
Cool. I wish I could listen to your stories about the Iowa.
My early boyhood obsession with the Iowas led me to join the Navy. No more beautiful ships exist in my opinion.

I don’t remember the name...
I’m surprised I do. Like 50+ years ago. 🤔

do you want to add dates of service or should I use your post as is? :D
LOL...I have a hard time remembering my own name sometimes...LOL
In 1984 my ship spent 248 days out of 365 underway. The skipper said it wasn’t a record because it wasn’t consecutive days underway. But it still sucked.
Well, I’m gone till revelry...Good night...

Where were you transiting? What ports? I mean, it sounds interesting but if you’re tired of the ports and mostly it’s just ‘water water everywhere and not a drop to drink!’

When I say underway I mean at sea with no land in sight. That was a tough year. 8 months out of 12 months of nothing but the Atlantic Ocean to look at.

In the General/Chat forum, on a thread titled Is there interest in my creating a table of NAVY Veterans in honor of the Navy's specially anniversary today? TO ALL NAVY VETERANS, THANK YOU!, central_va wrote: |

I spoke, or tried to speak with, Russian sailors on leave in Vancouver, Canada. They wanted to know where 'Bar 5' was. I didn't know where the bar was but I had already been told the roaring sound bouncing off the cloud cover above that city that night was US Navy having fun in 'Bar 5'.
To the best extent we could communicate, the men said they were crazed by working 8 months in a row at that point. While at sea, those working in the factories (fishing) worked 8 hours on, followed by 8 hours of. WATER WATER WATER. They were sick of looking at water.
Later, he was XO on an LST, heading toward the Pacific, to prepare for the invasion of Japan.
They were somewhere around the Panama Canal when the war ended.
