An angry Olive Garden waitress throwing breadsticks at customers who stiffed her on a tip is a compelling story, especially if police arrested that waitress for assault.

Conservatively, this story has been seen more than 5 million times. It comes complete with a mug shot of a pretty blonde woman with watery eyes and a pink face who has clearly been crying.
But the entire thing is fake. Everything that is—except for the young woman. Her name is Megan Ashlee . She is a student in College Station, and this fake post is wrecking her life. "It's probably like my worst nightmare coming to reality," Davis told Chron. "People are making very inappropriate comments or AI-generated things with my mug shot," Davis said.
The Facebook account "Pure videos" that created the fake post is verified with 1.7 million followers. The majority of its posts—if not all—are fiction. The breadsticks story isn't even original. As of Friday, the post about Davis had 112,000 comments, plus 101,000 reactions and 12,000 shares. And now dozens of separate accounts have copied that post to make their own—complete with her teary mug shot.
Even though the Facebook post did not include Davis' real name and the fake story took place in St. Louis—not College Station—many other people tracked her down on social media and sent her harassing or creepy comments.
"People are disgusting out there—and scary," Davis added. Chron kept Davis' full name in this story because her name is already out there and she believes this will help make the truth wider known. ‘But she has a mug shot—she must be a bad person, right?’ Davis’ mug shot came after a night out drinking in August. She was arrested for public intoxication.

“Social” media is getting swamped with sludge generated by artificial “intelligence” and natural stupidity.

Agreed. Many FReepers just love new technology and fall head first for these traps. AI can be a good thing if properly used, but in the hands of communists or pranksters it can be deadly for the nation.
Free Republic is the closest I get to social media. There are many comments here that would not have been made 20 years ago, some of them pro-communist. I suspect AI might have something to do with it.
I stay completely away from Facebook and similar. No one needs to know what we do or who we are.

This is where you find out how utterly evil facebook is.They promote this rage farming with fake garbage at the expense of innocent people for profit.
Both the channel and the platform should be sued into oblivion over garbage like this.

Another is the cell phone. Many falsely believe it is merely a modern technological device to replace the landline.
The same people fail to realize it’s also used to track your location, monitor your talking on it in real time, secretly record your conversations on or off the phone, secretly look at your texts and photos. Not to mention accessing social media anyplace, any time.
What really PO’s me is the rudeness of some cell users. Such as not shutting them off in a meeting, getting a call and talking over the speakers voice with their own. Sitting through a green light while texting. Taking a call in the checkout line at a store and talking loudly, holding up the others. Or mindlessly crossing a street with their eyes glued to their texting instead of oncoming traffic.
20 years ago FR's Mission Statement was hard news. Today it's a 24/7 fundraiser.
Not long ago, I had breakfast at the Green Tomato, a local eatery. When I got home, I checked my cell phone and saw a message, “how was breakfast at the Green Tomato?” All the time I was there, the device was in my pocket, and I had not used it at all.
You got the stupid young people part right.
There are multiple BS rage bait stories out there about HOAs doing all sorts of ridiculous stuff.
NONE of them have a single iota of truth to them.
They have 15 million hits, though, and thousands of comments.
People are played so easily.
There will be a learning curve as to what’s real and what’s AI, but then it will set in and most, if not all social media will become irrelevant…good riddance. Maybe we can get back to some sense of normalcy in sharing information between humans.

Cell phone is a useful tool for my job.
