The Derry Township Supervisors on Tuesday approved a permit for a proposed solar farm along Newhouse Road after hearing objections to the project from several neighboring residents.
The supervisors indicated they aren’t any more pleased about the proposed 27-acre solar array than residents are.
But they said they are issuing the permit because the plan for installing 11,000 solar panels meets the requirements of a related township ordinance.
“I’m like you,” Supervisor Don Kepple told solar farm opponents attending the township meeting. “I wouldn’t want this in my backyard. How can you say ‘no’ when everything is done right down the line?

What happened to property rights ?
People may not like these farms, but if it meets requirements, it is a landowners right to control what occurs in his/her property, like it or not.
Do I like disgusting pig crap spread on neighboring fields, or chicken grow projects next to me? Not particularly, but it is the landowners right.
There are ZERO examples of solar farms that live up to their forecast output. Even worse, are wind farms that usually produce 1/2 to 1/2 of their forecasted output.
That is why so many lie idle.
Pennsylvania is rich in natural gas. But Democrats have used the regulatory burdens to drive up prices, forcing PA residents to see a nearly 50% increase in electricity costs.
I think this has more to do with greased palms.
Was the zoning changed recently?
