And Adam is quite clearly called the son of God.
The sons of God were the children of Seth, the first man after the death of Abel to have a relationship with God after the birth of his son.

The daughters of men were the children of Cain and the other of Adam's children who did not call on the name of the Lord.

Cain has his own genealogy and there is nothing listed in his genealogy that attaches him to ‘the Adam’.
