Layoffs often force you to upgrade your life and your career which you wouldn't have staying comfortably in your comfort zone.

I've seen it repeatedly where the company that let someone go either had to hire to or more than one person to replace them or had to hire someone at a much higher salary because the market had shifted over the time period the departed employee had been in the role.

I have observed again and again, that laid of workers ended up getting a better paying job elsewhere. I stopped feeling sorry for laid off colleagues
