Agree. Having a mother and father in the home to convey appropriate role models and parenting roles makes a difference. My dad was away at sea in the Navy for about half of my life. He did set some examples to follow and offered counsel when he was home. Mom picked up the slack with transport to merit badge counselors who were beyond safe biking distance for me. My nominal limit to bike to a merit badge counselor was 20 miles one-way. Dad was an Eagle Scout. I did that on April 12, 1972 at age 15. Dad was active in DeMolay. I did that as well. Senior and Master Councilor. KT, RD, PMC of National City Chapter. Both Scouts and DeMolay were opportunities to grow leadership skills. Useful later in an employment context. Some of those opportunities have lost favor in the current time.
