The Periodic Table of the Elements came from Russia. The inventions of the 1800s came from all over Europe and The US.

Yes, I have. You obviously missed my point. The creators of those artistry's were geniuses in their own time but the knowledge behind them was primitive until they came along.

So what inspired that genius?

To advance my point, you could pick out 10,000 names from your phone book and ask them to design a trebuchet without them ever hearing of such a machine or knowing what they do and ask them to design a machine that throws stuff at enemy forces.

And I would wager than not a one of them would know what you were talking about or even have the slightest idea of fabricating one once you told them of its function.
