Unfortunately it is likely the cops wont even say they are sorry
Terrible...awful...but not nearly as bad as it could have been.
There is something systematically wrong with staging so many no-knock SWAT team raids in the middle of the night. Yes, being a police officer is hazardous. But that is no excuse for this kind of overkill.
There are many times more tree trimmers and fishermen per 10,000 that die on the job than LEOs. It is time that culture accepted a greater degree of risk, if for no other reason than to reduce mistakes like this in the name of justice.
If bad guys lie, and say they are the police, it is a crime if you try to shoot them?
These police need the electric chair, along with their boss.
The dogs were executed, of course?
This is one of my most back-of-the-head fears. I don’t fear thugs breaking in nearly as much as idiot cops breaking in the wrong house (mine).
What were the polices doing in his garage?
That is trespassing.
Local law enforcement is one of the most DEI-Infected areas of .gov employment.
Back the Blue till it happens to you.
D’oh!
Dispatcher needs to be fired, but will probably just be reassigned elsewhere in the police dept
DEI hire, or just plain old incompetent?
Probably a Union member.
Let’s hope this citizen bankrupts the incompetent police department...
Also eight rounds fired, one hit the homeowner in the leg, and the rest ventilated the garage, spray and pray. Now the reaction of the Kops is not of contrition for the mistake, rather it is to seek aggravated assault charges against the homeowner to cover their a$$e$.
ARM YOUR SELF. You never open the door, you never go out side, even if you think it is the police. YOU call the police. Get the operator on the line recording what's happening.
They stay out side you stay inside until the issue is resolved.
Happened to me. Knock on my door 1:30AM. Made them let me visually identify them through a window, they did the open the door to talk shtick and I told them I preferred not to put my shot gun down to open the door and told them we could transact any business they had through the door. They were not happy but did not push it.
Don't open the door, don't go out side and if you are apprehensive don't answer the door, call 911.
Long past time to end qualified immunity. You screw up in an official capacity you pay the price including forfeiture of all assets and life in prison without possibility of parole.
The actual housecall address needed help and got none.
These cops did not want this any more than the victim....I hope he sues the city for a billion to use to fix this problem so none of these guys feels this crappy ever again.
Some tax money is good to ‘waste’.
