Me too. I taught physics for many years. And sometimes I would need a specific resistor for a demonstration, let’s say a 5 ohm one.
If I didn’t have one, I could fill out a school purchase form, then send it up the line. Then I’d get my resistor in about three months.
Or I could go down to my local Radio Shack, and buy a two-pack of 5 ohm resistors for a dollar.

I recall an electronics class in junior high. We had to memorize the colors on resistors to determine the resistance. Black brown red orange yellow green blue violet gray white silver gold. I can remember that from over 50 years ago. I have to think about what my phone number is today.
The other day I needed a small doo-hicky to complete a project that was time sensitive. Checked the big box, they didn't carry parts. Finally went to our local independent hardware where I snagged the last one. From now on I go there first.
