Sometimes “they” is used as a neutral term even for one person if the gender isn’t known.
Even if an individual uses they/them, a better usage should have been "shot themself", not "shot themselves."
The best usage would have been the correct sex-identifying pronouns. This coddling of mental illness is ridiculous.

Agree. Also, the article states that they don’t usually report on suicides but because of the “gun” and the fact the suicide was public they did report it but I think they used “they” because they were intentionally hiding the person’s identity because of their policy of not reporting/naming.

I really dont think the confusion kids suffer with today is their faults. They have nearly zero leadership in school and a high percentage of their parents have been indoctrinated to turn a blind eye to this crap and allow it to happen to their own family. I am a kid born in 67. This crap never happened. NOBODY would have allowed it to happen back then. Our country needs to set some new guidelines on what is acceptable for our children to be taught in schools or we will lose our country from within. We may need to fire a lot of admin school officials and teachers with the generation who greets you at Walmart today. We need a culture change. We need a new nuclear backbone.

Don’t make assumptions based on how the article ws written. It was most likely the author or the editor who decided to use “they” and “them”.
