Pregnant women are filming themselves taking Tylenol in defiance against Donald Trump's shaky claim the painkiller causes autism in children.
The president announced that doctors in the US will begin advising expectant mothers against taking the drug because of an apparent link.
Trump, 79, claimed that taking Tylenol 'is no good', adding that pregnant women should 'fight like hell' to avoid taking it, except for in cases of extreme fever.
Several moms have gone viral on TikTok for posting videos of themselves taking Tylenol in protest.
'Here's me, a PREGNANT woman, taking TYLENOL because I believe in science and not someone who has no medical background,' one mom called Grace wrote over a video of herself taking the pill and dancing.
'Quit believing everything you see and hear,' she wrote in the caption for the video, which racked up almost 30,000 likes and 305,000 views in just 17 hours.
Several studies have linked Acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, to higher rates of autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
However, the findings have not often been consistent and many doctors say it is completely safe, and even recommended, because high fevers during pregnancy can harm the mother and child.

Where you are in terminal phase your ammonia levels spike and it is like having a stroke it cooks the brain and is super painful. Wish it on no one I watched a family member die of systematic organ failure due to lymphoma. His liver went first it was the ammonia spike that ultimately ended it in 12 hours after the spike. People taking Tylenol in large doses to spite a political party is big dumb. No sympathy you chose this suck it up butter cup.
Tylenol has never worked for myself or my husband. During my younger years, I had endometriosis, pain was bad. Taking a sugar pill would have helped as much as Tylenol. It was and is worthless for my pain.
I think that kind of meme is toxic trolling wherein they try to get people to do dangerous things or harm themselves (e.g., suicide).
Taking a chance on causing your child to have autism is just hideous.
Semi off-topic thought on all this:
A major portion of the pregnant women taking Tylenol in the past (not these TikTok nuts), did so because they had significant, persistent fevers, and no good alternative meds. Purportedly, not treating the fevers can have dire effects on offspring, leaving the mothers with a dilemma of which is riskier.
So: Women taking Tylenol for fever, already have 1) fever; and, 2) an underlying infection or illness causing fever. Either 1 or 2, or even both, could be the real link to autism — not the Tylenol given to treat it. But Tylenol would be statistically correllated with autism, even if it was not the cause. I’d hope that NIH is way ahead of me on this...but I’d hope a lot of things.
Studies would need to look into autism results between two groups of women who suffered fevers during pregnancy — one that took Tylenol and one that didn’t.
Had several friends died of liver failure. One of my brothers is a transplant survivor and another on the list because of cancer ( in remission right now) Yeah, it bad, real bad.
