"Talk like a Pirate" really means "do a really bad imitation of a Dorset or Devon accent". Ever since Robert Newton played Long John Silver in the 1950s Treasure Island film, people seemed to think that all pirates came from the southwest of England, or that the southwest England accent was somehow unique to pirates.

In reality Pirates come in many different stripes. Somalian pirates I’m sure don’t talk like Robert Newton.

Tells you what a great actor he really was, to have that long lasting effect on society.
Johnny Depp is in that same class, since he’s redefined the ‘Pirate’ genre.
