Screen legend Robert Redford has died at the age of 89.
The Oscar-winner died in his sleep on Tuesday at his home in Utah, outside of Provo, The New York Times reported.
The announcement of his death was made by Cindi Berger, the chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK.
Redford was one of the top Hollywood leading men for decades, appearing in blockbusters such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President’s Men.
His first big break came in 1963, when he starred on Broadway in Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park, which he would later reprise.
He often starred alongside many of Hollywood's leading ladies at the time, like Barbra Streisand in The Way We Were in 1973, and Jane Fonda in the 1967 film, Barefoot in the Park.
The actor began directing later in life and won an Oscar for Ordinary People in 1980.
He founded the nonprofit Sundance Institute in 1981, which became a staple in the arts world for years to come.
n 1984, he transformed a struggling film festival into what's now known as The Sundance Film Festival, in Park City, Utah.
It was a home for budding filmmakers to make a statement, famously featuring directors like Quentin Tarantino, Ava DuVernay, James Wan, and Darren Aronofsky.

He was in Barefoot in the Park from 1967 with good ole Jane Fonda. Granted those you mention also had careers in the 1960s as well.
But yeah, I agree.
Remember Rush saying "B.S. Barbra Streisand."
He did a lot. Sundance Film Festival, Sundance stores/catalog and Sundance ski resort.
Yep, she was one I was thinking about.
In a lot of ways, the premise of “The Way We Were” was ahead of its time... normal, all-American, fun-loving guys on college campus with obnoxious, shrill, unattractive communist women.
My family used to go skiing in Park City every year from the 80s - 00s. Robert Redford absolutely destroyed that wonderful little town. I think the last time I went was around 2008. It was full of pompous asses. If I wanted that, I’d go to Vail or Aspen. Haven’t been back since.
He was that good looking.
Roy Hobbs R.I.P.
Loved a lot of the movies he made, The Sting, Butch and the Sundance Kid, Out of Africa, others. However, his politics sucked, and I did not like any of his left-leaning leanings.

They left Park City because of the Gay Flag etc.- leaving a Red state for a Blue one.

That’s gotta hurt.
Back around 2004 or 2005, my manager attended a pension financial conference, in I think Arizona. Redford was the guest speaker, and instead of talking about corporate pension related information, all he talked about was environmental issues. My manager said it was the biggest waste of his time and our corporate monies to send him there, that he had ever experienced.
First mistake. Never invite a Leftist to speak at these programs, you will get a leftist drivel.
Okay.
“Ordinary People was some great work.”
Great movie. Great cast. Heartbreaking.
I loved him in movies. May he Rest in Peace.
I’m 89 too, no medical conditions that might kill me but you never know.
The Way We Were is memorable for me.
I went to the theater alone on Christmas Day because Hubby was on duty at Elmendorf AFB. I didn’t have many friends there yet. Had only seen a couple movies in a theater in my life before that.
Redford was gorgeous. The movie was emotional and so was I.
partly filmed at Union College in Schenectady NY
I was never a big fan and my mom really disliked him. As with most people, I hope he repented and gave his life to Jesus before he left this world, but as an actor, there were much better men and women.
