I know, my understanding was it was assault consummated by a battery .... usually with simple assault the cops won’t even consider doing anything.

Mis-leading headline because
“Booker was then taken into custody and was charged with battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and was cited for assault.”
The author of the story is trying to frame it as being a free speech arrest.
