Of course Charlie knew, that’s why he wore a ballistic breast plate. But here’s the unfortunate twist. I read that the round hit the upper edge of the plate, ricocheted off the plate, and blew out his carotid artery. I don’t know enough about ballistic vests but I’m wondering if it may have been the result of the material the breast plate was made of. I heard it was metal and not kevlar, and kevlar might have trapped the round rather than deflect it. Deflection occurred because the round hit high enough and at the upper edge of the plate.
