Whoopi Goldberg isn’t planning on leaving The View anytime soon.
In a new interview, the longtime co-host of the daytime talk show made it clear she has no intentions of retiring — and her reasoning was refreshingly candid.
“I’ve gotta keep paying those bills, baby!” Goldberg, 69, told Entertainment Tonight on September 9.
When asked if she’s considered “slowing down,” Goldberg admitted she has, but quickly added, “Who can afford to do that?”
“If you don’t marry well, you’ve got to keep working,” the EGOT winner quipped

Ha.
I like you so I won’t turn you in to Flo.
Isn’t it amazing she has been on the ads since 2008?
Her daughter is in her 50s. Her other spouses are in retirement. The only thing that she might be paying is for her grand children’s bad choices. She makes millions. There is no prenup that can still be in force.
Really? I knew a long time but darn near 20 years.
Pretty good career for her.
You are confusing her with Oprah.
Who owns about a 1000 acre ranch in the higher elevations of Maui.
Most of which was a cattle ranch.
Originally she bought an old farm house with a 100 acres. Then bought another 870 acres next door when it came available.
This is not on the beach. It is the higher elevation above 3000’ up the side of the volcano. It is cattle ranch country. Her property is a LONG way from Lahaina. Like 30 miles.
Net worth of 30 or more million? Income from the show of 8 million? And she can’t afford to retire?
Would love to see her household budget....
She may be just throwing out lines she thinks her viewers might like to show she is just one of them, etc. She is reportedly worth $20M and makes $8M a year.
Perhaps you are overlooking Whoopi’s legal problems.
Via Grok:
Karoline Leavitt Defamation Lawsuit ($800 Million): A claim circulated that conservative commentator Karoline Leavitt filed an $800 million defamation lawsuit against Goldberg and “The View” for alleged defamatory statements made on-air and via social media. However, this claim has been debunked by fact-checking sources like Snopes and Lead Stories, which found no evidence of such a lawsuit. The story appears to originate from AI-generated videos and satirical websites, with no credible court records or news reports supporting it.
Holtermann’s Bakery Defamation Case: In November 2024, Goldberg faced potential legal action from Holtermann’s Bakery in Staten Island after she suggested on “The View” that the bakery might have denied her service due to her political views. Law professor Jonathan Turley noted that the bakery could have a strong defamation case, as Goldberg’s comments implied political bias without evidence. While no specific lawsuit amount is confirmed, the case could be costly if pursued, though no updates confirm active litigation as of mid-2025.
New Jersey Real Estate Lawsuit ($50 Million): Goldberg’s company, Whoopi Inc., was sued in 2021 for $50 million over a New Jersey real estate development dispute. The lawsuit alleged that Goldberg’s company schemed to replace a developer in a West Orange project. This case remains active in New Jersey courts, with no resolution reported as of mid-2025.
Cannabis Business Lawsuit ($167,000): Goldberg’s cannabis company, WhoopFam, is embroiled in a legal battle with former Paterson, NJ, mayor Joey Torres over a failed marijuana dispensary deal. WhoopFam filed a countersuit for $167,000, claiming breach of contract. The case has moved to the Law Division, indicating potential for higher costs due to its complexity, but it’s not in the “extremely expensive” range compared to other claims.
Other False or Satirical Claims: Numerous debunked claims involve alleged lawsuits from figures like Elon Musk ($60 million or $1 billion), Riley Gaines ($10 million), Jason Aldean ($40 million), and George Strait ($50 million). These stories, spread via social media and satirical sites like SpaceXMania and Dunning-Kruger Times, lack credible evidence and are often labeled as satire or misinformation.
Conclusion: The most significant active lawsuit appears to be the $50 million New Jersey real estate case, which could be considered “extremely expensive” if it progresses unfavorably. The Holtermann’s Bakery case has potential for high costs but lacks confirmed litigation details. The $800 million Leavitt lawsuit is likely fictional, based on fact-checking. Other high-value claims are satirical or unverified. Always approach such stories critically, as many are exaggerated for clicks. For updates, check credible news sources or court records, as social media often amplifies misinformation.
Ted Danson agrees.
Then she’s done something terribly wrong financially.
Good grief!
The hosts on Fox get paid millions. The view is cheap
Maybe she could have scored if she had followed the advice of friends that urged her to apply more lipstick.
It’s 23 miles as the crow flies and 44 miles driving between Oprah’s ranch and Lahaina.
Low estimate of her net worth is 30 million. Seeing she is paid in the neighborhood of 7-8 million a year for The View, the high estimated of 60 million is more likely. I suspect it’s OK to retire. Please do us the favor and take equally vial Joyless Behar with you.
