Free Republic is working good now. But yesterday and this morning I got a 'page not found' or something. Anyone know a specific reason for this?
Also I use to have an alternate spot to go to when FR wasn't working, but I forget which it was. Maybe facebook or Yahoo groups. What is a good current one that let's us converse about possible problems? I have 'Site outages' listed that are useful but prefer alternate blogs.
“There is a FR Facebook page.”
Yeah. Complete worthless if you don’t have a FB account. All you get is the login screen.
At my end the whole net went down. “Internet not available right now.”
A lot of other chat sites were also down.
Here is my guess. Somebody did something. Joking aside, the outage happened early Saturday morning when maintenance is often scheduled. FR moved to a cloud service a while back. There could have been a virtual machine failure FR was using or maybe something like a power hit when FR was doing DB maintenance. It was serious enough that it was down for 2 days. Us long timers have experienced much long down times in the past.

Willy Brown believes that FR hardly ever goes down.
There was a Canadian site, freedominion.com, that was sympathetic and helpful to Freepers during down days. They were sued, lost, and were put out of business, IIRC.
All of the sites I frequent were off. FR, political sites, FB, Amazon. Kitko. It was pretty general.

Maybe. But FR went down just after I made rather large contribution,
SHOCK! Not everyone has Facebook.
