Nostalgia for the 1980s is so rampant that even people who weren’t alive during the glorious decade like to celebrate it as if they were. Teens today will even put on tracksuits and Kangol hats and boogie out to the likes of LL Cool J. However, those of us who witnessed the ’80s firsthand aren’t just sentimental for that bygone era. All those cultural cliches that people try to emulate? Yeah, it’s in our DNA. We are the ’80s and the ’80s are us. Keep reading to discover 50 things that any true child of the ’80s won’t just remember, but probably still thinks about on a regular basis. You can take the kid out of the ’80s, but the ’80s will always persevere.

Everyone wore Miami Vice clothing in the clubs back then.

I still listen to mostly Christian music, over half of it with a rock-n-roll bent from the late 70's to the mid 90's. Before the Aussie invasion of the late 90's made all of CCM into entry-level "praise and worship" style with predictable 8th note crescendos lasting 4 or 8 measures, and heavily repeated lyrics. (Even more repetition than 80's rock LOL)

Last December a buddy of mine and I went to a Petra concert. About 7 or 8 years ago I was at a concert with David and the Giants and Classic Petra. Both at the concerts and at home or in the car listening to old school Christian rock, I often ask myself if I still have the love and trust and dedication to the Lord like I did when I was a teenager.

I had them loaded on the super-massive 20mb hard drive on my ITTxtra.

We wrote our own stuff and produced an all-original album.
It was Good Stuff.

I recently played bass in an A of G Church and it was all “Australian Invasion” music. I hated it.

They wouldn’t even do the “old hymns”.

It didn’t last long. For me, anyway.

LORD Knows I TRIED to fit in.

25 years ago I attended an A of G church that was about 90% white. However when the music started we all thought we were black. LOL Some of the most fun I've had in my life were the couple of times I filled in for our regular drummer. LOL

FRmail me where I can buy your album.

The best thing in the 80’s was The Miracle on Ice, and the worst thing was the Challenger disaster. Lots of stuff in between.

Thank you so much for your kind words!

The band (SALT) used to perform a lot of my songs. We did that one on the WPRO TV show “Soul Village”. Around 1985.

Can’t find a record of any of these things anywhere.

So I just redid it myself and played and sang all the parts.

I’m interested in the 30’s, not the ‘80’s.

The 2030’s.

I was part of a start up in ‘87. Video was fundamental to the organization. BETA hands down. The first camera I housed was a Sony DXC-3000.

Magnum PI, Knight Rider, the Love Boat, Dallas, lol

My boys really like the show stranger things which is set in the 80s, my youngest said it seemed like such a chill time and it was. I could ride my bike wherever, play outside until dark, ride in the back of pickups with my softball team to Dairy Queen. I miss those days.

I forget the word processor, before “Word”, for PCs.

There were several that were #1: Wordstar, Multimate, and finally WordPerfect (the greatest mainstream word processor of all time, with XYwrite and Nota Bene as excellent niche products).

The DOS version of WordPerfect was written in assembler, so it was lightning fast on the PCs at the time. DOS Word and IBM's DisplayWrite were players, but definitely second tier. With DisplayWrite being almost unbearable.
