PM Keir Starmer backs Angela Rayner, his deputy, after she admits not paying enough stamp duty on a property in Hove

"I'm proud to sit alongside her," Starmer says, during a PMQs in which Tory leader Kemi Badenoch calls for the housing secretary to be sacked

Earlier, Rayner said she had taken legal advice when purchasing the East Sussex flat in May 2025, which suggested she was liable to pay standard stamp duty

Following "further advice", she said she was "working to resolve the matter and pay what is due" - read the full statement

Outlining a trust set up for her son with special educational needs, and her divorce in 2023, Rayner also said she had referred herself to the standards watchdog - what happens next?

A career-threatening episode, but Labour officials seem to believe Rayner will survive, our chief political correspondent writes

HUGE SCALP Freepers!

This is complicated but she bought a million dollar property in a nice seaside town and apparently "underpayed" $60k in property taxes

She is almost certainly gone.

Her defense is she did this for her disabled son so he can have a "home for life" and didn't seek the proper advice but stresses it was within the rules and codes of conduct, etc.

We will see if she survives this or not.

Why that bad? She might have done it within the rules but she is also the housing secretary (think HUD). LMAO. It looks bad

She has reported herself to the standards committee and HMRC (IRS)

Starmer is tone deaf.

The UK is burning, so what does he do? He pours gasoline on the fire.

Rayner should convert part of her house to a migrant hotel. That should make both Starmer and the Labour members of Parliament happy.

Rayner keeps her job. Plus she gets to examine the migrant crisis close up.

Problem solved.

👍

Yep - they jail people for “mean tweets”, and then let a criminal stay in a high political position....

I wonder if Angela Rayner can actually afford to resign. She just bought an £800k flat with something like a £160k deposit, while just finding out that she owes HMRC £40k in stamp duty.

Cabinet Ministers get almost £70k on top of their £93k basic salary, of which they’ll keep roughly half. Rayner could have confidently expected to earn that for the next four years.

She’s not alone...

@ArchRose90

Keir Starmer has managed to pick:

An anti-corruption minister who resigned after being accused of corruption.

A homelessness minister who resigned after making people homeless.

A housing minister caught up in a tax scandal over a second home.

He loves fellow hypocrites.

Makes sense, Starmer probably doesn’t pay his taxes either.

Doing it for “the children” is always an admission of guilt.....
especially a “housing secy” who knows all the rules.

She’s supposed to be providing affordable housing for Britons and she goes and buys a $1.2 million apartment for a disabled son.

She’s supposed to be a government finance guru and she doesn’t pay enough tax because she claims she didn’t know the right amount to pay.

Following "further advice", she said she was "working to resolve the matter and pay what is due" - read the full statement

In plain-speak: "I got caught so now I'll pay the money that is owed".

Love this headline...

The ‘confusing mess’ that saw Angela Rayner resign from Government

There's is NOTHING confusing about it.

Rayner is a tax cheat.

And she was toast the moment her lawfirm threw her under the bus.

Here’s the question...

Did the UK’s Deep State pay Rayner to go away...?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Here’s a taste of how the UK’s Deep State is responding...

https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/nigel-farage-using-private-company-for-gb-news-earnings-so-he-can-pay-less-tax-397579/

It’s yeying to equate tax avoidance with cheating on your taxes.

Good luck with that.

Nobody with a brain and a decent accountant pays one penny more in tax than is legally required.

And I can think of a laundry list of tax avoiding lefties, pols, bureaucrats, biz people, celebs...

Bring it on, Deep State.

Let’s go there.
