The problem wasn’t necessarily that she was a female engineer - it was that she was, at a minimum, incompetent, and quite possibly deliberately cut corners to get the winning bid (although with today’s quota system, she was almost guaranteed the winning bid anyway in many cases).
There are women engineers that are pretty sharp, but when you get one that relies on her gender instead of her engineering prowess to “get the job”, then you can rest assured that the work will be substandard.
