Astorga’s most iconic landmarks in one frame: Foreground (castle-like building): The Episcopal Palace of Astorga, designed by Antoni Gaudí in 1889–1915. It’s a neo-Gothic masterpiece and one of only a handful of Gaudí buildings outside Catalonia. So it’s just over 110 years old. Background (taller tower and ornate church): The Cathedral of Santa María de Astorga. Construction began in 1471 and stretched into the 18th century, so parts of it are 550 years old, others closer to 300 years. And beneath them both are the remains of Astorga’s Roman walls, dating back nearly 2,000 years. So in one photo you’ve got Roman, medieval, and modern(ish) layers of faith and endurance.
