Sitcoms are the comfort food of entertainment, the things we turn to when we need a boost or a smile. Unlike other genres of the best TV shows—like, say, crime shows, which we need to be in the mood to watch—we are always ready for a few laughs. Naming the best sitcoms of all time invites a lot of debate, but there’s no doubt that classic TV shows like I Love Lucy, which premiered in 1951, helped pioneer the format in which familiar characters find themselves in situations, whether realistic or ridiculous, that become fodder for laughs, usually within a tight, 22-minute episode.

Married with children
All in the family
I never was a sitcom fan, but the best sitcoms out of the 60’s are not even mentioned. And half of these listed here, I have never heard of before.
It used to be rock-ribbed Republican. Lefties bought it and dismantled it. That’s what they do.
I like all that you mentioned. When we’re all here ready to wrap it up and need a sit com like a bedtime story, ‘Frasier’ is at the top 3, which includes ‘Seinfeld’, The first 3 seasons of ‘Brooklyn 99’
Top ten includes ‘Parks and Recreation’, ‘The Nanny’, ‘The Andy Griffith Show’ and ‘Gilligan’
For ‘Frasier’, ‘Parks and Rec’ and ‘Brooklyn 99’, and anything after 1970, have to have someone quick on the fast forward and actually root out and forget about some episodes altogether for sex content. Which is what makes ‘Friends’ completely unwatchable. The entire theme is sex -extramarital sex.
I never heard of a lot of these shows, I kinda think the article is pushing for somebody.
There are some very well known ones in there and the writers on those shows were really a big part of why these shows were funny.
They didn’t mention ‘The Nanny’? That show was really pretty funny.
Very surprised the Daily WH Press Briefing starring Karine Jean-Pierre was excluded. Also overlooked Joe Biden’s Presidential Debate vs. Donald Trump.
(Fraiser, Bob Newhart, Jerry Seinfeld will keep you laughing for days. Sadly, Carol Burnett Show was not included).
“ H.M. From Across The Pond”
‘Absolutely Fabulous’
‘Keeping up Appearances’
Python
“”Everybody loves Raymond probably one of the funniest-””
That and Home Improvement, Last Man Standing, Seinfeld and Two and a Half Men.
The Nanny??
I doubt many conservatives watch The Nanny reruns since that lead character is such a nasty TDSer.
Absolutely. I’d put 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 first.
You’re right about Monty Python. They packed a ton of funny inside 30-minute shows. I was stuck on the “sitcom” condition of the title.
Hogan’s Heroes
Gomer Pyle, USMC
The Beverly Hillbillies
Green Acres
No Barney Miller??
Just Shoot Me
King of Queens
Rules of Engagement
’Til Death
Malcolm in the Middle

“ How could they leave out The Dick Van Dyke Show?”
Well, going from the FR tradition of not reading the article, and your comment, How COULD they leave out The Dick Van Dyke Show?
Carl Reiner, MTM- no better straight man/woman, The episode with the mafioso and his no-talent nephew alone
Did they leave out ‘Get Smart’?
Ugh now I’m gonna have to read it
Sometimes I walk in and the young adults around here are watching ‘Hogans Heroes’ and ‘Get Smart’
That’s the measure. Does it hold up. Does it amuse future generations who look for it and choose it. Often
But funny is funny and the show is. I don’t pay attention to her politics and the show was made years ago, she even once mentioned him on the show in a friendly way. It’s not in the loop of todays stuff.
I bet if you knew how a lot of those shows people are you’d find they are leftists with tds, Alan Alda for instance.
What about Green Acres? Lol
Benny Hill
‘Andy Griffith Show’
Essential. And Brilliant. They don’t know that Howard Morrison, who played Ernest T Bass, who was actually from the Bronx, was a writer on the Sid Caesar Show? Do they know that the Sid Caesar Show was the prototype for sit coms and that the Simon Brothers, Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Woody Allen were among the writers?
