Arch Manning’s long-awaited (and much-hyped) 2025 debut turned out to be a showcase instead for defending national champion Ohio State’s defense. Manning, the consensus Heisman favorite entering Week 1, struggled to solve new Buckeyes defensive coordinator Matt Patricia’s scheme. He finished 17-of-30 passing for 170 yards, a late touchdown and an interception — plus 38 yards rushing — in a 14-7 loss.

For what it’s worth, the best college quarterback that I have seen during my lifetime was a Manning. Not Arch, not Peyton, not Eli.
Archie.
His stats won’t impress you, but he played on a really bad team. Only those who saw him play in college would understand.
Of course there’s a lot of hype and he didn’t meet expectations. But, he’s still a kid and was playing the defending national champions on the road.
Virtually none of us armchair QBs have never been in this kind of spotlight.
I was pulling for Ohio State only because I hate them less than I hate Texas. This kid will mature and become a star, I think.
No kidding. The Mannings are ALL about the BENJAMINS. I’ve lost respect for them.
NFL scouts beg to differ. BTW, his wide receivers looked slow and the right tackle couldn’t block anybody.
You can’t win when your defense sucks.
First game of the season? Using your logic, OSU isn't even worthy of the top 10 since all they could score is 14 pts.......Sheesh!
The Texas defense was fine. They made a few slip ups.
**NFL scouts beg to differ.**
You mean Jerry Jones. Got a hard-on for the kid.
I saw Archie play at Tulane Stadium and the Superdome many of times. In the end I thought Bum Phillips did him wrong trading him away. Archie wasn’t pleased either.
No, I am aware of the rankings, and Texas was favored slightly, but I thought that Ohio State is truly number one until they lose. They won’t go undefeated though, so Texas and Ohio State could very well end up in the Championship game. BTW, I am a UT grad so I am pulling for Texas.
Ohio State lost 14 players to the pros. This is an entirely new team with a mostly new coaching staff. This is a rebuilding season for them.
I hope they do well, but I won’t be surprised if they don’t. When you lose that many players AND coaches, there are bound to be problems.
(We lived in Columbus for 25 years and our oldest graduated from there.)
Lol. Being better than Manning obviously does not make another QB excellent.
he played 3 good minutes of football today....the numbers were slanted because Texas was down 14 pts with 3 minutes left and Ohio State played soft coverage...,
he was 5/10 for 26 yards in the 1st half
which scouts??
BTW- Ryan Wingo, UT’s #1 receiver, is a track sprinter who runs 10.55s in the 100 meters and plays to that speed...
When Archie played, Ole Miss was still all-white.
It was McNabb.
Your right. He sucks. That is obvious from just one game on the road against the defending national champions in front of 100K fans. The first game with a largely new cast of players. BTW Peyton and Eli struggled very early in their careers.
U R right! My brain break-wind.
