The extreme tactics Las Vegas hotels are using as hotspot faces worst crisis in years
UK Daily Mail ^ | August 30, 2025 | Alice Wright

Las Vegas hotels are rolling out big incentives — including free nights and thousands of dollars in casino credits — to lure visitors back to the city.

Sin City saw an 11.3 percent drop in visitors in June compared with the same month last year, an astonishing fall that means almost 400,000 people stayed away.

That decline translates to less spending in restaurants, shops, shows and at hotels, where occupancy fell nearly 10 percent, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

“Casino operators stupidly figured visitors losing thousands of dollars gambling would pay extra for their crummy “services”-——how wrong they were.”

In the YouTube Universe, Vegas is quickly becoming the Bud Light of the Hospitality Business, perhaps even surpassing Crackpot Barrel.

Nope. My orthopedist recommended a double knee replacement last time I was in.

Do it, you lose two years to rehab but then the pain is gone.

You can add high minimum bets....
Back about 20 years ago...$2 was minimum bet...
Some even as low as 1 dollar...
Laughlin, Nevada used to have 25 cent craps...long time ago.

Only about 7 full buffets now, and it ain’t prime rib every night...maybe once or twice a week for prime rib. But they have much better food than old version...
Lots of Asian buffets in Las Vegas outside of casino areas. Vegas gonna’ have to lower fees and prices to survive.

Vegas starting to realize people can gamble online, Indian Casinos, state lotteries, so the people don’t have to make the pilgrimage to sacrifice their money anymore.

When I had to go to Vegas to work, I usually stayed at one of the motels across the expressway. One time I needed to stay downtown so I went with the Golden Nugget. Extra fee for the lights on Fremont Street. I always stayed away from the Strip, but I did walk a few blocks down Fremont and buy an overpriced hot dog for supper.

If I wanted to do a casino, there’s a couple about an hour and a half from where I live; or there’s Louisiana about 3 hours away.

High minimum bets are not limited to Vegas. Just about every casino in Illinois does the same thing. Of course, the cost of surviving in Illinois is high anyway, so the natives don't notice it.

It's a little better in Iowa or Wisconsin, but if you are burning gas with Illinois gas tax included, better is a relative term.

Unions have taken over all Strip Casinos. Prices skyrocketing. Aggressive homeless humps everywhere. Streets filthy. Elevators near sky walks out of order. Escalators not working. Who wants to climb two rows of stairs in 110 degree heat?

List goes on and on.

“This was a great man, a man of vision and guts. And there isn’t even a plaque, or a signpost or a statue of him in that town! Someone put a bullet through his eye. No one knows who gave the order. When I heard it, I wasn’t angry; I knew Moe, I knew he was head-strong, talking loud, saying stupid things. So when he turned up dead, I let it go. And I said to myself, this is the business we’ve chosen; I didn’t ask who gave the order, because it had nothing to do with business!”

When people came back from Vegas they’d tell people, “I had a great time, definitely going again”.

Now the message is, “it’s outrageously expensive, not going back”.

They pushed the prices to the point of “short term benefit”, now are experiencing the longer-term effect.

It’s still a bucket-list location -but instead of encouraging you to come again, you leave thinking, “never coming back”....and that word gets out.

It is a free country. If you don’t like Las Vegas...don’t go.

These rag on Las Vegas threads are tiresome.

Much said is distorted and exaggerated.

What's wrong with posting?

Maybe I haven't been to Vegas in years.

Now I know it's a bad time to visit Vegas because it's a rip-off.
