Rhode Island prosecutor Devon Flanagan who told cops they’d ‘regret’ arresting her in viral arrest video is slapped with 6-month suspension

The Rhode Island assistant attorney general whose arrest went viral after telling police officers they would “regret” taking her to jail has learned her punishment for the embarrassing scene.

Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Flanagan, 34, who was arrested for willful trespass at the Clarke Cooke House restaurant in Newport, Rhode Island on Aug. 14, has been placed on six months of unpaid leave.

“On Aug. 14, Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Flanagan mistreated the Newport Police Department and embarrassed herself, the Office, and frankly me,” Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said, according to the Boston Globe. “We hold our attorneys to the highest personal and professional standards, and Ms. Flanagan plainly did not meet those standards here.”

Police were called to the restaurant just before 10 p.m. after an intoxicated woman, Flanagan’s friend, refused to leave the premises.

During the chaotic encounter with police that was captured on a body-worn camera, Flanagan repeatedly pestered officers to turn their cameras off, insisting that, “Protocol is that you turn it off if a citizen requests to turn it off.”

“I’m an AG! I’m an AG!” Flanagan told police as they tried to detain her for failing to comply.

“You’re going to regret this. You’re going to regret it. I’m an A—,” Flanagan said as she was escorted to the back of a police car and the door was shut.

“I sincerely hope she takes this time to reflect on the seriousness of her conduct and makes corrective changes in her life,” Neronha said in the statement. “She has a long road ahead of her, but I believe that in the long run, our worst moments can inspire us to become better people.”

Plenty of time to experiment with box wine.

I read somewhere that her salary was around $115,000/year, a six-month suspension without pay is $57,500 which is a hefty amount for being drunk and stupid in public and getting it caught on camera.

So, six months from now, she will be charging people with crimes and prosecuting them?

Was she at the restaurant drinking by her self?

A white Republican male AG would be in jail, and his legal career would be on life support.

You sober up from drunk. Stupid goes clear to the bone. Being broke makes being stupid harder. Just sayin! 🫤

Two things surprise me.
She is white.
She is too stupid to have
been in her position.

I expect this sort of stupidity from Black
people in positions of power, they
get away with it.
A white woman?
She will be nailed to a wall!

Wait a minute! If she truly is an “AG” then why didn’t she inform the police of this fact? We all know the exalted position of “AG” renders you immune to any and all laws, grants you extra legal privileges and requires that the police bow in humble submission.

Maybe it’s just me, but I believe prosecutors should be held to a high standard of lawfulness and respect for law enforcement.

I want to know why she refused to leave the restaurant? The real crime here is how little regard she had for the restaurant staff who wanted to go home. She is a selfish, garbage person.

Plenty of time for her vindictive nature to fester for when she returns to serve up her own special views on justice.

Perhaps she will join the democRAT Party. She could run her campaign with the slogan:

Defund The Police Bodycams!

You couldn’t be more correct: apparently nobody tells
her what to do...........and to be ejected from the eatery?

She was not able to handle it judging by her reaction.

I’ve watched the video a number of times, I have no issue with her being fired, losing over $50,000 in lost pay because of her suspension is not just a slap on the wrist.

I thought at the beginning, she would be required to issue a written apology, offer to take a counseling course and everything would be forgotten.

Thanks to the video going viral that was never going to be an option.

And I’ll bet she’ll be back before the six months is up.

Unless the AG is trying to get her to resign.

If that’s a case, what a gutless wonder RI has for an AG.

I’ve heard over the years that RI’s government is corrupt as heck.

Now I believe it.
