Why bother? We’ve been to the moon and you know what’s on it? Nothing!
It’s a big rock with a lot of dust on it.
Space travel should be restricted to robotic missions. Billions... Yes... Billions are being wasted designing ships and equipment that humans either use or occupy. There is no need for such waste. Robots can pretty much do it all and they need no food, no air and take up very little space.

There is plenty of metal and energy their, much cheaper to make it on the moon than transport it from earth.

They are landing where the Sun literally never shines, the Lunar poles. This is because water ice has been detected there. That ice not only helps any permanent base , it also makes for the ultimate gas station. Water can be split into Hydrogen and Oxygen which can then be used as rocket fuel.
