
3I_Atlas was discovered near the orbit of Jupiter. It is about 5 degrees off the plane in which Earth orbits. It is moving too fast to stay in orbit around the Sun. As can be seen in this animation it gets the closest to Mars then close to Jupiter on its way out of the Solar System.
As can be seen in the animation as the comet approaches Mars it is lost to Earth views because the Sun gets in the way. Mars , however, has a half meter telescope in orbit which can view the comet as it gets close.
When 3I passes the Sun, the Earth will be on the opposite side. The graphic is wrong.
