A couple in Oklahoma has been arrested after an 11-year-old girl in their care gave birth at home without any medical assistance - though they insist they did not know the girl was pregnant.
The young girl's mother, Cherie Walker, 33, and her stepfather, Dustin Walker, 34, are facing felony child neglect charges after they allegedly failed to provide supervision or medical care to the child, who gave birth at their house in Muskogee on August 16, Fox 23 reports.
She was 36 weeks pregnant and gave birth to a full-term baby, according to court documents obtained by the local news station.
Investigators also claimed in the charging documents that the 11 year old received no prenatal care and had not been to the doctor in over a year. She was also reportedly homeschooled.
Prosecutors then only found out about the incident after the girl was taken to a local hospital following the birth of her child.
'I was horror-stricken to find out it's an 11-year-old girl who's given birth, and that she had no medical care and she had no one to be with her,' Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson told KJRH.
She added in remarks to News on 6 that the young girl is 'traumatized.'
'She's been through a horrific ordeal. I mean, not only has somebody gotten her pregnant, but she gave birth at home without medical assistance and this will be with her... for the rest of her life.'
Hutson says she is now planning on filing additional charges against Cherie and Dustin, who are being held on a $100,000 bond ahead of their scheduled September 3 court appearance.
Prosecutors are also awaiting paternity tests to determine who may have impregnated the young girl. Those may take two weeks to complete.

” we can all but figure who the father is. “
Ya think? LOL!
Poor kid.
And they had to get the “home-schooled” dig in there, of course.
“Plus the child was 11 how much did she understand?”
At 11, I would’ve been clueless. Sounds like a rathole of a home. I’m guessing that by now there are zero children in that place.
“No doctor in a year! “
The only time we saw a doctor growing up was when we were beyond sick. The reason a surgeon told the school nurse that I was the sickest child he ever saw that didn’t die.
The ‘50s and ‘60s were seat-of-your-pants when it came to healthcare. Nothing at all like today.
Some jurisdictions may not consider it rape if bith parties are underage and there is not a significant age discrepancy in years.
Not clear that she was rape. 12 years old boyfriend very well could eliminate your theory.
Hey prosecutor, why do you think the parents home schooled this little girl? Of course they knew she was pregnant.
very often, neglectful parents don’t notice any changes b/c they don’t care about the kid anyhow. Prayers for this 11 yr old.
I agree things were different back in the day. But today health is looked at differently. I know in the 80’s I had an annual physical as a teenager. I’m glad you recovered!
I know we’re going to be shocked when they announce who the father is. 🙄
11 year old has a baby her parents arrested horrific ordeal.
Going to be a lot of hard times ahead sad.
THEY KNEW.
I thought it would be some paki living in the UK but no... it had to be Muskogee, Oklahoma, U.S.A.
Home schooled? By whom? These “parents” sure were not capable of teaching anything useful.
I never had a check-up or anything like that until I was grown up. We never had any kind of medical insurance. We were raised by a very hard working single mother, God Bless her, she really did the best she could for myself and my two brothers. I guess it was just a different time, you went to the doctor if you really needed one, not for checkups. We all turned out fine and never did any crime or jail. I was born mid 50s, times were different then.

Uhm, my wife had our 3 kids. Last I remember, “full-term” is 40 weeks. If the 11 year old gave birth at 36 weeks, that’s not a “full-term”.
Plus the child was 11 how much did she understand?
At 11, I knew all about sex. Let’s just say, I started early with the farmer’s daughter. Or, rather, she started early with me.
Didn’t article say stepdad is the father?
Poor little girl needs to be taken out of that alleged home. Hopefully, some nice couple will adopt her and her baby.
