What “Cracker Barrel” means. As told to me by my late grandmother who would have been ~115 or so today.
Back in the old days in the rural country stores they had meats and cheeses that you could buy by the pound. When you did, you got free access to a barrel of saltine crackers that you would use to make little sandwiches with your meat/cheese. (At least this was the case in rural Tennessee where she was from, and ironically, where Cracker Barrel was founded).
I love CB. Be going since the early 80’s. It breaks my heart to see what they’ve done to the menu, and are doing to the company as a whole.
not harvard, not mba, but BA in “communications” [one step above Underwater Basket_Waving] at U of Miami, Ohio ...
based on her pic and EV, she either prostituted her way up the ladder or Peter Principled her way up the ladder:

War Hardtack Overview
Hardtack was a crucial food supply for soldiers during the American Civil War. It was a type of dense cracker made primarily from flour and water, designed to last for long periods without spoiling.
Shipping and Storage
Barrel Shipping: Hardtack was commonly shipped in barrels from Union and Confederate storehouses. This method of storage helped protect it from moisture and pests.
Longevity: Properly stored hardtack could last for years. Some hardtack consumed during the Civil War had been made as far back as the Mexican-American War (1846-1848)
Trying to go woke without letting on they’re going woke.
LOL. I had the “opportunity” years ago to work with some McKinsey consultants on developing corporate strategy. I discovered that these McKensey guys were absolute geniuses in discovering what answer the top dog wanted to hear, and then in torturing the data to make it say that.
As to whether that was the right answer they could care less. They just took the money and ran.
So why even call it Cracker Barrel now?
bump
Cracker Barrel restaurant is based on a 'country store' not a Civil War camp.
I understand there are surviving hardtack crackers but is there a barrel labelled hardtack or crackers?
Hard task is just a big cracker
Cracker Barrel’s Karen-looking - is CEO the right term? - was on a liberal program saying the feedback from customers and the work force was amazingly positive.
Yeah, sure right.....I don’t think so.
Matt Mitchell with a funny take on it.

I see those glasses still come with the nose, but they got rid of the mustache.
Shame.
Yeah.
Crackers in a barrel at a general store.
I saw this: in the Wikipedia entry.
“ Cracker Barrel licensed products are sold in grocery stores under the name “CB Old Country Store” following a 2013 trademark-infringement lawsuit brought by Kraft Foods, which sells cheese under the brand name Cracker Barrel.”
ok thanks for the info
You were right.
