As a pilot since the 60s, I'm still in awe of the absolute technology pioneering miracle that was the Orville Wright's first flight of a powered aircraft in Dec 1903.

As I recall from earlier readings, the Wrights invented the wind tunnel to design their wings and prop blades, developed a wing-warping system that preceded today's ailerons, developed three axis controls (including a hip cradle) and with the assistance of another, developed a gasoline engine light enough to be used for early aircraft operations.

Still amazing.
