Why Are Academics -- and Others -- So Nasty?
American Thinker ^ | 18 Aug, 2025 | Christopher Chantrill

We all know that our universities are the very last place to go if you want a free and open discussion of ideas. Only approved progressive ideas are permitted, and don’t you forget it.

Nothing new really. I’m reading 1491: New Revelations of the Americas before Columbus at the gym, and author Charles C. Mann is describing wars to the death fought by academics over the decades about various migration theories in the Americas and the all-important question of when modern humans first arrived here. There’s the Clovis theory:

The "Clovis First" theory posited that the Clovis people, identified by their distinctive stone tools found near Clovis, New Mexico, were the first humans to colonize the Americas, arriving around 13,500 years ago via the Bering Land Bridge.

The academicians were arguing over whether the Americas were populated by humans before the last Ice Age when the sea level dropped enough for humans to be able to walk across the Bering Strait.

Divided the academics may be, but they are united in sneering at the efforts of amateurs grubbing around in the dirt on their farms and backyards without the trifecta of formal qualifications, government grants, and approved methods of analysis.

It’s odd how humans fight to the death over ideas. I get the necessity of fighting to the death on the border against those who would dispossess and despoil us and rape our women. But why do religions all seem to agree upon the necessity of eliminating heretics? Is heresy a life-or-death issue? That goes in spades for our modern secular religions like communism. And why do all political regimes wage war on the opposition? Why do academics insist that all the professors in the university department hew to the same ideology of logic and reason

It is odd how people will get stuck on ideas and will hate you if you want to deviate in any way. I have seen it plenty of times in the engineering field.

Cuz !

They are all vetted darwinist cult members who are reprobates who worship at the alter of secular humanism and communism who’s primary doctrine is that there is absolutely no such thing as absolute truth and that nothing exploded into everything.

No logic or reason that refutes them allowed.

As a Douglas Adams fan, I found this funny.

The behavior is the same as those defending a cult. Mental illnesses are inherent in Academia.

“That goes in spades for our modern secular religions like communism.“

Nice try lumping religion in with all of the isim’s. Religion, Judeo/Christian, has an offset that the isims don’t, ie God, who reserves certain troublesome things to Himself. Vengeance, anger, that sort of thing.

Guilty. Years ago, my mind had decided that clerestory windows were actually ‘celestory’ windows. They were called that because, I was certain, they were high up on the wall to let in ‘celestial’ light. Thus, they were ‘celestory’ windows. Argued that point with friend, who showed me a dictionary. One my more humbling moments...

The old saw is that university politics are vicious because the stakes are so small. (In a land of tenured staff jockeying for small honors.)

Where I worked, it was wall-to-wall ‘faculty’, and a more selfish, immature and delusional crowd of jerks you have never seen!!

The ONLY one with his head screwed on right was a guy who was born in Russia and probably forgot more about Communism than all the others combined, ever knew!

Generally speaking, academics are nothing more than support for that which really matters.... the trades.

There is a huge blind spot in the vision of these academics, who start off thinking they are so vastly superior to the mere plebes, that they cannot conceive a different viewpoint can even exist. When this alternate point of view is detected, it must be ridiculed and denied in every way, as “unscientific” and “illogical”, just to keep the underclass in its place.

And yet, the very basis of science and logic, is that everything SHOULD be subject to re-examination, that there is no such thing as “settled science” or “irrefutable logic”. Troublesome things like facts keep popping up that explode all the hypotheses and axioms.

Isn’t that true!

Professors can have a big ego because they are always right in the classroom. Most would be utterly wrong in the real world.

They’re willing for the shilling.

And Deep State pays pretty well.

Check out the salaries, health bennies, and pensions they get for doing Deep State’s dirty work.

Academics are elitists. They exist to write for their peers, most of which no one other than other academics will ever read. They have great difficulty writing succinctly or on a topic of general interest or importance. In short, they focus on the trivial. When Einstein wrote, “Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly,” he had academics in mind.

I observe this same behavior in so called Bible Thumpers or Biblical Academic Scholars, especially here on FR.

They become like the Pharisees who are legalistic, not ever feeling Love, the most important element in any spiritual growth.

It has to do with people owning their knowledge as a possession and forming an ego identity around their possession of the knowledge. They become so afraid to lose their ego identity that they will attack anyone who even asks a question, the answer to which undermines their knowledge. (This is also the basis of Trump Derangement Syndrome.)

I presented a lecture and demonstrations at a major divinity school to a large audience of academics across many departments, including many MD’s.

One man in his late 70’s left the lecture three times, and then returned to hear more each time. He was a retired psychology professor at the university whom I had never met prior.

A month later, I was presenting a similar lecture at the medical school and this same man came up to me and explained that he didn’t believe a word I said as it didn’t fit with all his education through PhD, or in his 40+ years of teaching at the university, or in actual experiences in practice. However, when I demonstrated it, he explained that his body started physically shaking and wouldn’t stop shaking, so he left my lecture and walked the halls of the building until he calmed down. His eyes saw the demonstrations which undermined his knowledge. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing and it created an internal paradox. He then returned to the lecture and the same thing happened again, and again, three times in total.

He was not ready for me to explain that his response was normal for an injured ego. My demonstrations undermined the knowledge he possessed and had formed an ego identity around it. (This is why “dying daily” is so important in spiritual growth. It is the death of the ego that blocks us from perceiving and experiencing God. In Buddhism, they call this same process as “achieving No-Self. It’s the same thing.)

I was presenting Jesus’s teachings, explaining them, and then demonstrating why Jesus taught what He did by reading the detailed stored memories in people’s souls, without them saying anything. I demonstrated that sin is actually a physical obstacle to Love in a person’s soul, and when I touched it, many feet from the person’s physical body, it often knocked them off their feet. I also demonstrated that anger attached our soul to the person we are angry at, thus giving them control over us. Forgiveness sets us free. (If a person closed their eyes and thought of the person they were angry at, my moving the stored memory in their soul moved their physical body in the same direction, even though I was many feet away and their eyes were closed.)

I try to pull Thomas Kuhn’s 1962 essay, “The Structure of Scientific Revolutions” every year as a reminder of how an injured ego responds, and why. His essay is very accurate and describes the journey of academics. I highly recommend it to everyone. It helps me to have compassion for all the people, even here on FR, who attack me as being delusional. I just allow them to hold onto their own delusions as my individual identity that is based upon my relationship as a servant of Jesus and God are not influenced by the attacks which often become vicious. I have no need to convince others.

I share this for people to gain understanding, not to glorify my own ego, as to do so would lead me into forming a spiritual ego identity, a trap that everyone encounters on their own individual spiritual journey.

I have been in neuroscience conferences at the New York Academy of Sciences where Nobel Prize winners stood up interrupting with shouting, screaming and attacking other presenters they disagreed with. Some were close to becoming physical. The emotions were especially high between NYU and Columbia university faculty. As an outsider, it was laughable seeing them act like children.

I can only imagine what it would have been like when Einstein and Bohr went at it in debate.
