I would only shoot them if they started biting me.

I would shoot them to prevent them from biting me.

I despise dog owners who don’t leash their dogs
Not guilty.
And if he had shot her for good measure, still not guilty.

So, you would just start shooting at them, not knowing if they even intended to bite you? Most dogs are not going to bite you. You would be shooting a non-feral animal. But I understand the fear of being bitten. I have been bitten by cats several times and it is definitely not fun.

not really! The dog owner had NO business letting her dogs off leash. Even little dogs can cause dangerous injuries from bites. The man attacked could have had health or frailty issues. Shoot first, ask questions later. And then sue the dog owner.
I have had dogs all my life, mostly black labs. I would not dream of having them off leash in a public setting, even if all they would likely have done was slobber on someone’s shoes.
Some people ought not to be allowed to have dogs , or children for that matter; their brains can not process that much data.

I'm actually pretty smart. I've had a long lifetime that includes experience with all kinds of dogs in numerous situations. I know when I am in danger. If an owner actually loves her dogs, she must keep them from appearing to be a threat to my safety.

Small, yappy dogs can also cause harm if they nip at your ankles.

So many irresponsible dog owners. Such a pity, dogs deserve to be loved and that includes training.

A friend had a beautiful boxer puppy, did not train her. She was not on a leash; ran off; did not respond to instructions (why should she?), ran in front of a truck and was killed.

I have also noticed that dogs know when they are facing easy prey or certain death.

It’s not just dogs. Animals have instincts that humans don’t have. Humans might have had them a long time ago, but technology and “progress” and other things have probably bled those instincts right out of us.

Ever heard of “the hair standing up on the back of your neck”? It’s a real thing and I have felt that feeling before when I felt threatened. It’s a remnant of that natural instinct we all used to have, I suspect.

A friend was dog sitting his daughter’s grown Boxer. He had to let the dog out for nature call, and his large yard was unfenced. The dog went into the yard then made a beeline to the old lady walking her chihuahua. The dog was trying to kill the chihuahua and was also biting the woman. My friend ran over to try and separate the boxer. No matter what he did, including kicking the boxer in the ribs and gut he could not stop the attack.
He pulled his .45 and killed the male boxer.
The chihuahua was dead and the elderly lady severely bitten.
The boxer was a family house dog raised with children.
You never know when a dog will go wild, but it is in their nature.

My boxers were well trained to discipline and never went off leash when out of the yard, which was 6’ fenced. And they never showed any agressive barking against anyone that wasn’t coming ‘at’ me or my husband, but they were always on a leash. Great watch dogs and great with kids. There are exceptions to every rule, though.

It freaked out the grandfather and of course the mother and father of the dog. Had always been a family dog.
Boxer dog body was tested for rabies and tick borne illness but nothing showed as a cause.
People who blindly trust a dog around children are playing with dynamite.

Most of the time it’s not a boxer though, it’s a rottweiler or doberman or pitt bull. But like I said, there are exceptions and it has a lot to do with how the dogs are raised. Stupid owners = stupid/aggressive animals in many, if not most, cases.

Snipers are taught to never look directly at the target individual until they begin sighting. Most people know they are being watched. We have wonderful capabilities that are rarely cultivated. You are right, people have allowed natural instincts to erode away.

The only dog that was actually attacking me stopped cold once I sited my pistol. I did not shoot. We declared a truce.

Animals can sense fear in humans. The dog evaluated your lack of fear and made a wise choice. Which is something that some humans are not even smart enough to do....lol.

If two pits manage to grab a hold of you then you won’t be shooting anything.

Here in Central Florida almost everyone obeys leash laws. A small dog is just little snack for an alligator. Alligators can run 35 mph in a straight line.

Depends on how they behave. If they are clearly attack dogs and are not going to stand down, then shoot to kill. It is usually pretty clear what their intentions are especially if they continue to move aggressively towards you. I’ve been around a lot of dogs.
