Snipers are taught to never look directly at the target individual until they begin sighting. Most people know they are being watched. We have wonderful capabilities that are rarely cultivated. You are right, people have allowed natural instincts to erode away.

Animals can sense fear in humans. The dog evaluated your lack of fear and made a wise choice. Which is something that some humans are not even smart enough to do....lol.
