“Democrats have 24 more seats (in Congress) than they would have if illegal aliens were not counted in the census.” (fact or fiction?)
Politfact ^ | 08/07/2025 | Paul Specht

Posted on 08/10/2025 12:53:19 PM PDT by know.your.why

A North Carolina Republican has a theory about why Democrats oppose a bill requiring state and local government agencies to detain people wanted by federal immigration officials.

Republicans in the GOP-controlled General Assembly hope to enact the bill, known as the "North Carolina Border Protection Act", after Democratic Gov. Josh Stein vetoed it in June. They overrode Stein’s veto in the state Senate; the House of Representatives has yet to vote on an override.

State Rep. John Blust, a Guilford County Republican, said during the bill’s June 4 House debate that Democrats benefit from having a large population of people in the U.S. illegally.

"I keep thinking, 'Why are they [Democrats] choosing this hill to die on?’," Blust said. "And then I read a few weeks ago that: Because they count illegal aliens in the census, the Republican majority would be 27 seats in the Congress instead of three."

What is Blust talking about?

know.your.why, I will not assume you are being obtuse or a troll, but using a source like Politifact is going to make people think you are either obtuse or a troll whether you are or are not. I think your responses aren't helping your cause, either.

Additionally, you appear to be conflating election fraud with apportionment, and those are two different components that the Democrat Party has used illegal immigration to swing each of them in their favor.

The first component is election fraud. And their efforts to bring this many people illegally in to assist in giving them victory in the 2022 mid-terms and the 2024 Presidential election is the end goal. You need to keep in mind that the number of illicit, manufactured votes to swing an election is vanishingly small in comparison to the total number of votes. I have heard it is in the range of a few hundred thousand votes or less. They simply need to be manufactured and strategically placed.

The second component is representation in Congress which is determined by the census. It is apparently a zero-sum game, that is, there is a set number of seats, 435, each state gets a minimum of one representative. This explanation from the Census site describes further how the apportionment is calculated:

I did not wish to soil my browser by going to that website, but in the interest of fairness I did, and one of the key points is the number of illegals in this country. The author goes with the lowest number of 11 million, but that is clearly a leftist number. I have always thought it was closer to 20 million, though some say it is a minimum of 25 million. Right off the bat, that 11 million number is absurdly low, not worth consideration.

Why do you rely on the msm to validate something you can deduce yourself? Have some self confidence.

Even if illegals do not vote (I believe most do not?!) they are still represented, because the districts include them.
If the noncitizens were uniformly distributed or there were infinitesimally small number of them, counting them would not make too much difference.
But this is not the case.

If you look at any recent election, you can add all votes cast. You will find massive disparity in cast votes between different districts.
One average districts should have about 900,000 citizens and some do. Some have even more!

But, on the other hand, there are districts with only some 300,000 citizens.
The rest are noncitizens and a lot of them (most in many districts) are illegals.
it means that the congress perron of this district is basically representing mostly non-citizens.

Just trying to ensure we have the bases covered!

I personally don’t need “proof” in the form of a written policy, fax sheet, or agenda by the DemonRats to know what they are up to.

Their actions say it all, clearly and unequivocally.

Yeah, you are somewhat right.

There are House seats that represent districts of fewer than 330 million / 435 = 758,000. For example, Alaska has 1 seat and total population lower than 758K. Wyoming — 580K. Vermont 647K.

So the whole matter is not straightforward, and my recall is the Constitution phrasing for counting in a Census has the word “persons” in it, not citizens. So this is going to be a tough fight.

“No credible genuine journalistic source ...”

When do we laugh?

Ever since the Pulitzer-prize-winning Walter Duranty - if not before - such sources have been rare to extinct. But of course you know this ... and choose to ignore such things.

Don’t kids yourself, Bush II allowed this to happen, in fact he tried to legalize them. (See you at the signing)

Oh, yes. I don’t disagree and Bush has shown his colors openly. One could substitute Reagan’s name for Bush, and the arguments could be made in the same fashion.

But I still give Reagan a pass. He still thought the Left was going to abide by codified legislation. I give him a pass, because I thought at that time they would do so as well.

It was pretty clear that the Left and the Deep State had it figured out during Bush Senior’s term that they could pretty much do as they wished and nobody would get in their way.

Well. It is disillusioning, but...I feel that the lines are pretty clearly drawn now so everyone can see including the people who haven’t figured it out. That is an improvement, I believe.

It depends on where the illegal aliens are. AFAIK the census counts the population and divides that by 435. I’m not sure how the remainders are apportioned. RI and MT both have approx 1.05 million but RI gets two reps and MT only gets one. If you take the raw numbers of 747,000 people per rep times 27, you get 20 million illegals. That’s a good guess but probably low by several million. Plus they aren’t all grouped in one place. So some states, like CA, TX, FL, NY, and other states with more illegals would lose sets. But then the total number of people would drop as well as the number of people per rep.

You demand sources, but offer no authoritative critique. You signed up in 2017, but don’t understand the website.

Why should anyone respond to you?

Stupid is as stupid does.

Remember every state gets one representative regardless of population like Wyoming and Alaska have really small populations and still get one congressional seat and two senators

When they do a census, I thought it was to count CITIZENS. I really don’t see how they get away counting illegals as such.
