I do. Trauma.

Led to my reading before age 2, though. I still remember the first sentence. Reading to my mother, in her bed, on white sheets.

You were smarter than I was. My dad taught me to read at 5. Could and did read adult novels then. Recently found one of those old novels on AMZ.

I was an early reader also, an autodidact. I don’t remember actually learning to read though. My mom says I was sounding out street signs shortly after I started talking, graduated to Encyclopedia Britannica around 1st birthday. So I must have made some phonics connection early on. I do remember the first novel I read. “Space Prison”, by Tom Godwin.

I do have strong early memories associated with trauma. EG I went to the hospital for a high fever around 7 months and recall my outrage at being treated like a baby...the ignominy, the faces of the nurses, the green tile on the walls...it’s just a disconnected memory though.
