The singer invited the band to perform ‘Buddy Holly’ and ‘Say It Ain’t So.’
Olivia Rodrigo surprised the Lollapalooza crowd during her headlining set by inviting rock and roll giants Weezer on stage to perform a few classic tracks.
Toward the end of her performance, she invited the band to join her on-stage, noting that Weezer was the first band she ever saw live.
“You always remember your first concert. It’s a very, very special moment,” Rodrigo said. “I remember my first concert. It was a very memorable night. I watched this incredible band and I am so over the moon, because that incredible band is actually here tonight to play a few songs. Will you please say hello to Weezer?”
Weezer then strolled on stage and joined Rodrigo for versions of their massive singles “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So,” both from the band’s 1994 self-titled album. She played guitar and sang alongside Rivers Cuomo during the performance.
Rodrigo reflected on the event on social media, even sharing a photo of herself as a child at said concert, wearing oversized ear protection and wearing a Weezer shirt. Rodrigo wrote in the post, “my first concert and my last weekend of the GUTS tour. thank u to everyone who came out and thank u @weezer for still making me this excited all these years later!!! cannot believe how lucky I am to be able to play these shows with yall!!!! [three heart emojis].” Weezer added in the comments: “Full circle moment and an absolute honor, thank you [rock fingers emoji, lightning bolt emoji].”
Rodrigo has made a habit of inviting artists to perform their songs during her festival headlining sets. At this year’s Glastonbury Festival in the UK at the end of June, Rodrigo was also one of the headlining acts, and invited The Cure’s Robert Smith onstage for a rendition of the band’s “Just Like Heaven.” At Governors Ball in New York earlier that month, she performed Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House” alongside the band’s David Byrne.

Who?
And calling Weezer “rock and roll giants” is a giant stretch.
You still use Windows 95?
Of course. Don’t you?
I remember that well! In summer of 1996 some other students and I were hired to set up a computer store on our college’s campus. We had a few new builds on display running Windows 95. I must have had to watch that video a hunnerd zillion times.
And?
I am installing Windows 7 right now. I hear it’s excellent!
95 was too complicated
i went back to 3.11
Who brings out a what now?
I am disappointed. No Africa or Beverly Hills?
I like their cover of Africa.
Hmmm...
Never heard of any of these people...
Yes! I remeber that...
Cheers!
I can’t believe there are people here who don’t know who Olivia Rodrigo is. She’s had a ton of hits over the past six years. Your grandchildren and great grandchildren will know who she is.
Music today is all crap.
She may have had some minor hits, but where would I even hear them? You need to be tuned into modern crap to even be exposed to it.
I can’t believe there is someone here who knows her. Never heard of her.
I do know Weezer. During the 90’s , they were regulars on MTV.
The only modern artists i know are European artists such as Nightwish, Epica, Sabaton, Florence & The Machine, etc.
The only American artists that I’m familiar with are Brittany Howard and the Alabama Shakes and blues singer Beth Hart.
Modern American music is a wasteland.
I’m 60 and I know her. She has some good songs. But I prefer Billie Eilish, she’s hot.
There used to be a Freeper who was Rivers Cuomo’s cousin, maybe he is still on here, can’t remember his name.
