My grandfather used to use kerosene, he called it “coal oil”, to douse dogs, and me, for ticks............

lol, yeah them too... Growing up everyone fed themselves extra Garlic and their dogs fresh Garlic during tick season. It really does make a difference with keeping the blood suckers away. They just don’t like the taste I guess.
If you can find it, Elephant Garlic is mild to eat fresh.

yeah the times keep goign back and forth- i think the shorter time is because the process of the bacteria movign to the mouth parts, which is what takes so long on a tick, has already begun if they have just fed on something else-

Oh, Man! Was anyone accidentally set aflame? LOL!
We had, ‘Grandma’s Goose Grease’ which was just your basic antibiotic cream - but we really thought it WAS goose grease as kids.
Dad would slather that on us if we got a cut or a scrape.

Kerosene isn’t as flammable as gasoline, slightly more so than diesel.
It’s even good for Poison Ivy!..............
