RFK Jr. Pushes to Ban Using Food Stamps to Buy Soda: ‘U.S. Taxpayers Should Not Pay for It’
Breitbart ^ | 4 Aug 2025 | Elizabeth Weibel

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed that he is taking action to prevent Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) users from purchasing items such as sugary drinks.

Kennedy pointed out that while people can make their own decisions regarding what to buy and what not to buy, taxpayers in the United States “should not pay” for people on SNAP to purchase items like sugary sodas.

The comments from Kennedy were made as he and U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary joined Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins in celebrating the signing of six new SNAP state waivers, which would “amend the statutory definition of food for purchase and end the subsidization of popular types of junk food beginning in 2026,” according to an HHS press release. States signing the new SNAP waivers include West Virginia, Florida, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Other states, such as Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Arkansas, Idaho, and Utah, have previously signed SNAP waivers. …

It should be done like WIC where there are vouchers for certain food items.

If they want beyond that, they need to work for it.

I don’t think it’s about health. It’s about buying non necessities. I’d like to see ebt’s allowed to buy only bare essentials. Hamburger, hot dogs, veggies, fruit, potatoes, period. Might see some people actually work after that.

While we’re at it... let’s go ahead and slide “all” the way down this slippery slope. Here’s a thought. If those food items are so unhealthy for one segment of society (right now, it’s welfare recipients).... let’s go ahead and ban those unhealthy food items for everyone. I mean... it’s for the good of the people... right? It’s for all of humanity’s health. It’s also for the children whose willful parents let them buy all those evil items at the grocery store.

And let’s face it. It’s not just people on welfare that make unhealthy food choices and end up wrecking their health and eventually end up on welfare... which effects us all... right? We all end up paying for those folks that don’t look after their own health as we are faced with higher and ever-increasing medical insurance premiums.

And here comes the fun part. Right now, the GOP is in power. But when the commie left gets back into power over us all ... and they will... they’ll get to ‘decide’ what is ok for us to eat and what is not. They do so love to throw their power around (remember how they were with Covid and with the Obamacare “mandates”?). They will take RFK Jr.’s EBT torch... and carry it all the way, to the ultimate end. The same end as always when government is given the power to decide what’s good for us and what is not.

Before you know it... nobody will be able to buy “junk food”. It will all be banned. And they’ll be the ones deciding which items to ban... which will make them all giggly. And as usual, the commie elites will still be able and allowed to buy all of the “junk food” that they want (more for them). Cool, huh? Can’t wait. I don’t need those potato chips & dip, burgers and ice cream any way. It’s all bad for me and I know it. I just don’t have the will power to resist. Thank God the commie left (Democrats) will be around to save me from myself.

“Absolutely.

“And that should apply to ALL junk food.”

___________

So much of the American diet is obscenely overloaded, if not with cane sugar or high-fructose corn syrup (like soda), then with carbohydrates which are so high on the glycemic index as to be chemically indistinguishable from sugar once they hit the stomache and start being digested.

It would be good if stores and restaurants would begin increasing options, either for people who have quit the noted diet due to a diagnosis of pre-diabetes, or full blown Type II diabetes, or for people who are trying to avoid such diagnoses, or simply keep their weight down.

The spectrum of foods on the American market that are either low on the glycemic index, or are low in carbohydrates, or at least low in simple carbohydrates as opposed to more complex carbohydrates, is shockingly small, and limited, compared to what else is out there and being hawked as normal and good things for humans to eat.

And billions of dollars to subsidize corn, which is used in the production of high-fructose corn syrup while we are at it.

Especially if Medicare is paying your med bill on the back end. Ban junk food AND wear a fitness tracker/wearable.

In the ‘50s and ‘60s, some families in our church (rural NYS) were on a government program where they got “free government cheese”, peanut butter, powdered eggs / milk, butter, dried beans. I think the program was “Commodities” or similar. (The peanut butter and cheese were GREAT!)

Those kinds are the only things that should be allowed for purchase with our tax money. The Cowbird Class needs to stop being parasites.

The problem is oversight. Have to run it like the Army. Obesity means cutting off the cake and donuts. Weigh in. No EBT for you, fatty. Can’t meet height and weight standards, no EBT for you. Fall out for PT at 0630. Don’t be late

Surplus government American cheese, distributed in blocks. The taste was heavenly. And no foreign ingredients. Now, just try to find actual American cheese, as opposed to “cheese food” which of course includes individually wrapped “cheese” slices.

(It’s a bit too nanny state and slippery slope for me.)

Yeah I agree

Work on the important stuff FIRST:

Obamacare and mRNA

Many of these people are fat because they Eat, and Eat and Eat and Eat

“’cheese food’ which of course includes individually wrapped ‘cheese’ slices.

That stuff is an abomination. And I get so angry in a restaurant when an item is advertised with “cheese. Then they put it in front of me and there’s this gross polyester orange slime drizzled over it. Arrrrgh!
