The Age of Non-Woke Open Source is Beginning
The Lunduke Journal ^ | Jul 28, 2025 | Bryan Lunduke

Non-Woke "Political Protest Forks" like XLibre & Redot are thriving. Non-DEl Linux Distributions like Open Mandriva are as well. But Woke projects? Not doing so well.

TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: foss; linux
A lot is being said and discovered about how Google is wildly woke, Apple is wildly woke, and Microsoft is wildly woke.

Pretty much all of the software world is wildly and disgustingly woke. But within open source a non-woke environment is emerging. A unique, never-before-seen non-woke environment.

Isn’t open source itself a woke concept?

I would think the opposite. Woke is all about centralized control over thought.

Open source is all about decentralization of power. Open source is hard to censor and control.

Open source is about spreading the information and value of software around so that anyone can learn from it, modify it for their own needs, identify and correct mistakes and vulnerabilities, and pass what they've done around again for others to use. It's the very antithesis of central control and limitation.

Trying to control open source software is like trying to pick up a blob of mercury off a mirror with your fingers. Can't be done.

And as far as LLMs, you can go to Hugging Face, and find plenty of Open Source models that aren’t liberally biased.

“Isn’t open source itself a woke concept?”

like others say, it is impossible to create a monopoly like MS did. While the companies and Devs in ALL technology tend to lean left/woke, open source is one of the more painless forms that cannot really force that wokeness on anyone like the rest of the tech industry does.

That short GIF of the penguins always entrances me. I can watch it over and over, each time expecting that somehow it will start a little earlier or last a lot longer. Like that old GIF of the amply-endowed young woman in a low-cut blouse who sneezes and the blouse becomes unbuttoned, but the GIF stops just before she spills out of it. My brain is somehow always hoping that this time around we'll get to see the spill.... this time for sure... nope...

So perhaps there's an original video of the penguins somewhere, either real-life or AI (I hope the former) from which this snippet was made. Do you happen to know?

Regarding my query to ShadowAce above in #11, it appears you have a world-class collection of images and videos and links and whatnot. Do you happen to have a longer version of the penguins GIF? Or for that matter, a longer version of the young lady GIF (that’s an old one, probably late-90’s or early 2000’s)?

Wanted to add,

Every one of our audio books that we release are all open source. Just posted a few days ago about Calvin Coolidge’s autobiography.

Many computing device users object to Google’s prying, snooping, tracking. But, the users continue to:

- use G-mail
- use Google Search
- use Google Chrome
- sign in to the Google “Eco-System” (and demand to remain logged in)

Woke, “green energy” settings on computing devices, foul up some processes, notably: data sync. “Somehow” an important bit of info fails to be written (writing: interrupted), and “suddenly, after a restart or an update, my ______ is missing.” And of course, the user does not back up his/her data.
