To: Bon of Babble

Is your Cactus a Prickly Pear? Believe it or not, my Mom had one for many years up here in Wisconsin. She never covered it in winter, and it came back stronger every year.

It had beautiful yellow blooms in late summer.

Not sure, this one may be a prickly pear, although it does not set the "fruit" after blooming:

This one also doesn't set any fruit - and looks more like a small saguaro - both are very very old, I inherited them years ago:
