Don’t forget also, it’s NOT insurance. Insurance is a set, reasonable rate/fee for a low probability and/or unforeseen event that would otherwise be catastrophic to the family unit (and larger groups per group agreement).
What we are paying for now is essentially the worst possible iteration of a pre-paid maintenance plan. You not only get stiffed and harvested for any access of it by yourself/family, but your rates reflect the costs associated with caring for every other citizen/non citizen slob under the sun’s crappy lifestyle choices, AND you are going to pay some fraction of a premium whether you like or want it or not.
It would be the same if you paid for a service plan for a car, on a monthly basis, and your rate reflected the “need” to make sure everyone else’s vehicles were covered for ANY service or repair regardless of them never doing ANY preventive maintenance or regular services...
