Isn’t diesel priced higher these days because Bill Clinton imposed regulations that gave his Indonesian buddies (Riadis?) the cat-bird seat for supplying a low-sulfur product? It’s high priced because it has to be shipped in?
The Clinton deal with the Riadys was with low-sulphur coal not oil. By making a swath of the Grand Eschelante Monument (Utah) federally protected land, which allowed the Riady’s holding of the sweet coal in Indonesia to become the single source of “Sweet coal” in the world. Besides, Utah and Indonesia, the only other known source of this commodity was in Colombia, but it was mostly inaccessible due to the mountainous region. I’m not sure if any of those circumstances have changed in the 30 years since.
I think that was for coal.
The Clinton EPA closed down US mining of low cost low sulfur coal ...so his Riady buddy makes out like bandits.
That was the closing of Utah anthracite (coal) deposits to exploration so his bribers could ship that over (because anthracite is low sulphur).
