I remember when I was dating a beautiful Hungarian Woman She brought back so what they called Peach Wine !!! I wish I had gotten that recipe from Her. It was really Peach Moonshine 🍷
so=some
And let’s all take a moment to appreciate the very effective Hungarian border fence. Because of it, Hungarians can enjoy outdoor activities without fear of being stabbed or blown up by Muslim “immigrants”.
Notice the doggies. Nice doggies!
Yes, they don’t take crap from anyone. The Lady’s Father was a smuggler of weapons and ammunition for the Resistance while the nazi’s took over and later when the ruskie’s were starting to occupy. He damned near got caught but managed to get the Family out and over here first !!! He and His Wife moved back after the Wall fell.
He passed away before I could meet Him. She had gone to get Mom after He passed and bring Her over to live with her in San Antonio. That’s when the Peach “Wine” came over.
All four of my grandparents were born in Hungary. That makes me eligible for Hungarian citizenship. The only problem is that prospective Hungarian citizens must first take a language test.
As you might know, Hungarian is an insanely difficult language. I know a good amount, but I think not enough. So I’m working on it. We’ll see what happens.
🇺🇸 🇭🇺
I rather have a glass of Tokaji/Tokay wine with a few palacsinta spread with lekvar, rolled up and dusted with powdered sugar. ;^)
Palacsinta dusted with powdered sugar. Oh, how I remember that from my childhood! And kürtőskalács (chimney cake) too.
Both were staples at the annual Hungarian Day picnics I attended as a child. My grandparents attended the first one. That was around 1910. I attended the last one. I think that was in 2013. Maybe only 20 people were there.
🙁
Truth to tell, I rather have a slice of dobostorte, but nobody makes/sells that anywhere around here and I'm NOT about to make one, as it's a killer to make.
Could prolly find a recipe online unDer “peach moonshine”. I bought a bottle of some kind of Japanese liquor once from a fella qe knew because the liquor stores were closed on a Sunday. I dont, know what it was, but it was enough to gag a maggot. Drank it anyways because we were desperate for booze. Peach moonshine sounds like it would been way better than whatever it was we dra k that day lol.
Thank you!!
Thanks for the shiny new thread!
Looking forward to the race!
“I rather have a glass of Tokaji/Tokay “
There is a wonderful movie with Sam Neill, Peter O’Toole and Bryan Brown titled Dean Spanley.
Sam Neill plays Dean Spanley and when he drinks Tokay it transforms him...
Just a fantastic film and it has a wonderful ending.
If you like dogs (no animals harmed in this film) it’s a perfect film to see.
I could apply for the same reason.
If my Grandparents weren’t trying to assimilate to the culture they might of taught us all Hungarian.
Now its hard to learn.
I’m all about fixing this country anyways.
And in honor of our late FRiend Chode, Go McLaren!
I tried to learn a few basic words and it is a difficult one for sure. Good luck. Palacsinta-OMG those are so good !!! As Guy on DDD would say “You can wrap it around the bumper of a car and eat it .” (paraphrasing) Sue and Anya also made a Sweet Bread with Sesame Seeds around the Christmas Holidays but I never got the recipe and can’t remember the name of it. It wasn’t a pastry but a bread.
I never had or heard about Dobostorte but the recipe I found is simple but time consuming. I think I will try making one.
Welcome and Thank Y’All.
I drove to that track in 88. $2 an hour.
