I haven’t looked into it yet, but saw an article talking about high dose b-1 for alzheimer’s (and perhaps other dementias) video showed reading skill and comprehension before and after - there did seem to be a marked improvement, however, I onw that with alzheimer’s patients can be really out of it for days on end, then all of a sudden have clear days where you wouldn’t know anything was wrong. Maybe that is what happened in the video- but then again, maybe the b-1 did improve things. Hard to tell. Haven’t researched it yet.

Spend your days writing C++ code for image analysis does a pretty good job of keeping one’s noodle limber.

The Protect Brain Health Through Lifestyle Intervention to Reduce Risk, or U.S. POINTER study

If you can figure how they derive POINTER from that title, and not PBHTLIRR, you probably don’t have dementia.

The article gives useful advice on exercise and social engagement, but its dietary guidance is rooted in outdated, low-fat thinking.

The POINTER study reflects mainstream, conservative clinical practice—it endorses plant-heavy diets like MIND and DASH while ignoring emerging research on ketogenic, low-carb, and carnivore diets. That’s a problem because the aging brain often becomes insulin resistant, and ketones—produced from fat—can bypass this issue, providing a cleaner, more efficient fuel.

Ketogenic diets also reduce neuroinflammation and have shown promise in improving cognition in early Alzheimer’s. By excluding fat-centered approaches, the article overlooks a key metabolic truth: the brain runs best on fat, especially as we age.

Phyllis Jones.. typical liberal.

At t 62, Phyllis Jones felt trapped in darkness...
I saw the light and retired.

She was traumatized by her mother’s recent death...
My father died 40 years ago when I was 30, he was young it’s called life. We all die.

Ongoing pandemic stress...
Probably a mask wearing jab nut.

An increasingly toxic work environment...
I retired in 2012 before a lot of the DEI WOKE crap but saw it coming

A sudden panic attack led to a medical leave...
Panic attacks are liberal speak for “I can’t handle life”

Here a summary of the findings:

The structured group in U.S. POINTER followed a program with greater structure, intensity and accountability than the self-guided group. This is the “recipe” they followed:

Physical exercise: 30-35 minutes of moderate-to-intense aerobic activity four times a week, plus strength and flexibility exercises twice a week.

Cognitive exercise: Computer-based brain training program three times a week for 30 minutes, plus regular engagement in other intellectually challenging and social activities.

Nutrition: Adherence to the MIND diet, which emphasizes dark leafy greens, berries, nuts, whole grains, olive oil and fish, and limits sugar and unhealthy fats.

Health monitoring: Regular check-ins on blood pressure, weight and lab results.

————————————————

It’s interesting, none of these things seem to be a heavy lift. I imagine as people’s mobility declines they become socially isolated and they start to eat worse. Combine that with the disability or death of a spouse and you can find yourself in real “trouble.”

As to the dietary recommendations, it is the same propaganda, anti-meat, eggs, butter, etc.

Is this a Captain Obvious or what? Who didn’t know this such obvious info?

I’m 63, my wife died last year and I have few friends or family. I spend most of my time alone.

As an estate planner I have observed older folks for over 40 years. This data rings true with my experience. We need to be expected somewhere to do something on a routine basis. We need to stay significant. We need to move. We need to make ourselves do things we don’t want to do. I am 70 now and never will retire as long as I have any ability to work.
