Brave NYPD officer killed in Midtown shooting identified as Didarul Islam — 4-year force veteran with a family

The NYPD officer shot and killed by a deranged gunman inside a Midtown Manhattan skyscraper Monday was identified as a “hero” dad and nearly four-year department veteran – whose wife is about to give birth to their third child, officials and sources said.

Married father-of-two Didarul Islam, 36, was remembered as a dedicated family man who loved putting on the uniform after he was senselessly murdered by 27-year-old Shane Tamura inside 345 Park Avenue, heartbroken city leaders said during a press conference.

“He was doing what he does best and all members of the police department carry out, he was saving lives,” Mayor Eric Adams said at a late Monday press conference.

“He was protecting New Yorkers. He’s an immigrant from Bangladesh, and he loved this city, and everyone we spoke with stated he was a person of faith and a person that believed in God and believed in living out the life of a godly person.”

Islam’s wife was eight-months pregnant and the couple had two young boys, according to officials and sources.

Islam had been on the force since December 2021 and worked out of the 47th precinct in the Bronx.

He was off-duty Monday working as security for Rudin Management Company in the building, but was in NYPD uniform, sources said.

Playing devil’s advocate here and it may upset some.

The sheer lethality and easy availability in some states of the AR-15 combined with our godless, demonized culture is a sobering reality.

The founders wrote the 2nd Amendment before so called assault rifles were a thing (before video games, internet pornography, and other conscience-numbing lifestyles were a thing) and when American culture wasn’t as godless, broken, and mentally deranged. - Would they trust the average Americans of today with the responsibilities that come with freedom? 😕 Or would they still figure: better a corrupt yet armed populace still checks and balances, an even more morally bankrupt and bloated tyrannical government regime.

When the 2nd Amendment was written citizens could own artillery and many did. Talk about lethality. But guns aren’t the problem. People are.

There was a lot of social ills back then too. And society was even MORE violent in some ways, what with duels and all the skirmishes with Native Americans and whatnot — not to mention the brutality of slavery.

But I don’t think the founders could have envisioned the sheer scale of broken families, fatherlessness, psychiatric epidemics, gender dysphoria, etc… when architecting this free society of ours. I wonder if they would have erred more on order over liberty.

The tool is not the problem. The person using it is.

I assure you that in my hands I could engage and eliminate a target every second or less with a revolver with two that’s 12 in twelve seconds, speed loaders can reload revolvers in two seconds or less I can demonstrate this repeatedly. Many many moons ago working security we were only allowed 38 or 357 revolvers. I carried three at all times one on each hip and a J frame compact on the ankle all in 357. I promise you I could if so inclined eliminate 30+ in under a minute as fast as any AR could be deployed.

This says nothing of handing a well practiced person a lever action carbine in 357 or 44 mag that holds 10+1 or more in the tube and can be reloaded in again sub 5 seconds.

Oh but limit magazine size to 10 rounds ok fine I’ll let you have a 30 round and I’ll take three 10 rounders we square off and let them rip I promise you unless you are a skilled veteran with plenty of trigger time I will beat you in total shots on target in less time while doing tactical reloads vs you just pulling the trigger. I have taken many a hundred dollar bill off Jack wagons at the range who challenge this.

I also shoot three gun comp and F class rifles. None of my weapons are dangerous I am dangerous. One mind any weapon we learned from the very beginning of boot.
