Mom and aunts all grew and canned tomatoes. In the fall we made tents of newspaper to protect from early frost. A month later ones with pink were brought inside to ripen. Those that didn’t ripen were canned as Mock Mincemeat for pie.

Dad would go to a farmer at the end of the season and pick up what was left at $1 a bushel...I think 28 jars to a bushel.

MSN or Yahoo (can’t remember) had an article this week that said Florida tomato growers were plowing thier tom crops under because of the tarrifs.

Why would they do that?
