Cuts to public media will smash budgets of some local radio stations
NPR ^ | 7/20/25 | Frank Langfitt

Abby DuFour, WCHG news reporter and afternoon host of the show DuFour Du Jour, cues up the next song in her broadcast at the station in Hot Springs, Va.

DUNMORE, West Virginia — When President Trump pushed to slash federal funding for public media, he said a key reason was because he thinks PBS and NPR are politically biased. But some of those hardest hit by Congress' decision last week to clawback $1.1 billion in federal funds are small radio operations that provide local news and information to rural communities.

One is Allegheny Mountain Radio, a cooperative of three stations which cover Pocahontas County, West Virginia as well as Bath and Highland counties in Virginia. Allegheny Mountain is not an NPR member station, but it does run NPR's daily newscast, a quick run down of top stories.

Vince did the morning show and later the afternoon show on WMAL in Washington DC. I did not like him at first, but he has improved over the years. He does not have the natural wit of a Rush or Chris Plante; however, he gives thoughtful interviews with great guests. I listen to both Chris Plante and Vince Coglianese.

NPR News is not plus to any community. That propaganda is better off unheard.

“”””An example would be if there were no other local station that did news on council meetings or crops reports or aired local music performances.”””

I live in the Tampa Bay area and`the few times I listen to the NPR stations, they do not do news on council meetings or crops reports or aired local music performances.

Advice to them. Without changing their propaganda stance, apply for work at the two news outlets Cankao Xiaoxi,(Reference News) and People’s Daily (Official Communist Party news).
Or stay with radio applying for work at China National Radio (CNR), The Voice of China (中国之声) (also known as CNR-1).

Problem solved.

My experience with public broadcasting is from a while back. I do know they are still producing some programming there, maybe not as much as they did back in the day.

I know I’m not being fair, comparing him unfavorably to Rush and Dan.. but I can’t help my inner bias. And I keep thinking, for some reason, that Dan might be back on the air... in the not too distant future.

We have a great local radio station that is entirely funded by donations and local “underwriters”. The disc jockeys (do they still call them that?) are volunteers. It is different in that they play all kinds of music — rock, jazz, swing, country, gospel, so there is something for everyone. They have been on the air for years without government funding, so it can be done!

Chris Plante is on WMAL (Washington, DC), 9am-noon ET. He’s syndicated to some degree, but you can listen online.

Public radio is not how most people get their news anymore.

The Internet is the source of most breaking news.

This is much ado about nothing. Subsidized public radio is completely unnecessary today.

Federally subsidized public radio has been a LEFTIST propaganda tool for a very long time.

I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone at NRP. Let me tell you why.

When Ken Stern retired as CEO of NPR, he did some serious introspection. He realized he did not know any Republicans. No neighbors were Republicans. No coworkers at NPR were Republicans. No friends or relatives were Republicans.

He decided he needed to take a year long road trip to “fly over” country. He shot hogs in Texas (never hunted or shot a firearm), attended evangelical church events, attended back yard BBQ’s, even went to a NASCAR race. He discovered that conservative red necks and Republicans were moral, thoughtful and kind people, unlike everything he had been taught while in his “group think Bubble of liberalism.”

His book is a must read for anyone at NPR, PBS or CBC. He has been telling government funded media what is wrong with such organizations since 2017 and before. His book is entitled: Republican Like Me: How I Left the Liberal Bubble and Learned to Love the Right. The title says it all. It is also what is wrong with most of those in the rest of the Liberal Media.

George Soros (György Schwartz) will turn 95 in a few weeks. His term on this earth will soon be over, and I wonder if his son will have the same zeal that he has had. He hid his Jewish identity from the Nazis by forging a Christian identity with fake passports. The name Soros was chosen because of the fear of antisemitism. He is an avowed atheist and his Jewish background is non-observant (no surprise there). He reportedly turned over control of his vast wealth to Alex Soros, who controls the OSF or George Open Society Foundations. He has stated, “I’m more political than my dad” and indicated an intention to prioritize issues such as voting and abortion rights, and gender equity. in 2007, he stated, “I am not a Zionist, nor am I a practicing Jew.” While he does not belong to a synagogue, he observes Passover and the High Holidays with his mother. He has also organized convenings to address rising antisemitism. He currently resides in Manhattan, but spends a lot of time in the family estate in the Hamptons. Alex Soros married Huma Abedin on June 14, 2025, who was the top aide and friend to Hillary Clinton. It will be interesting to see the fallout that happens when the Clinton Coup is finally laid to rest and all parties are served justice by the courts. If Huma had ties with that action, she will be found out. I pray that Alex Soros finds his Jewish Faith and becomes Orthodox. There is a nice little Synagogue in Brooklyn that he can attend.

Gawd these people, can I say these people? anyway, these people complain because they get a news feed from NPR. I know that this talking head doesn’t know anything but someone should tell her that they are paying NPR for that feed. Also, only 10% of NPR funding comes from the Gov. They are not going out of business so stop bellyaching and read the news.
