According to the NY Post, the car was “full of drugs and booze”. And, the car was not returned a month after it was rented, so you could consider it stolen.

The rental paperwork would have led straight to one of them.

Obviously not a couple of Einsteins.

Who knows? Might be "best practice" in such circles to simply pass the (stolen) rental vehicle around amongst "homies."

Obviously not a couple of Einsteins.
