“We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable . . . ." wrote CBS. So is there going to be dead air when the show is finally put out of its misery? My bet is that it will be replaced with NCIS reruns (which will get much higher ratings).

The good news for Colbert was that his show consistently led the ratings in his time slot.
The bad news for him -- which will likely lead to the demise of ALL these late-night TV shows -- is that he has seen steep declines in his ratings over the years.
Basically, hardly anyone watches network TV shows in that format and/or that time slot anymore.
